Pigeon holder or as paddymac has put

They're lovely, the babies are particularly nice thanks for putting the photos on

I bought some accurate scales (to 0.01g) so wanted some cheap weights to check the accuracy, the weights are 1g 2g 10g and 20g. And weigh 1.01g 1.99g 10.01g and 20.04g on the scales - so they're accurate enough!

Ian - do you soak your gammon in coca cola? (I only ask as my daughter does - I personally have never cooked gammon...!)
-
Going to my daughters on Sunday, she's cooking turkey and gammon probably on Sunday, and not in advance, we'll be cooking the beef Saturday! First year my son won't be home

Not necessarily pigeon related, but where have you purchased from around the world? Although it takes a while to receive, I have purchased things from China, mainly craft based items, takes three weeks approx to arrive, but unbelievably cheap! I ordered a set of calibration weights from China - the latter cost a "whopping" £1.73 for 4 weights. (And would have cost £7 from the UK) Places I have been "stung", USA, not only did they not fulfill the order, charged me more for postage, then got stung for VAT and collection charges when it got to the UK. I got charged UK VAT on their increased postage and they were out of stock of half the items and didn't let me know!!! I would never order from America again (My daughter just got stung this Christmas ordering make up has ended up costing £90 for a mascara and lipstick, with duty VAT and collection charges ) Any experiences from buying abroad anyone?

Im Looking For A Book '' My Methods By Vic Robinson ''
REDCHEQHEN replied to Delboy's topic in Notice Board
It would appear it is "My Methods and the technique of long distance racing", thats is the full title. There is a reference to the book in a post a few years ago on this site, but I'm unable to copy and paste and it is Victor Hugh Robinson -
Yes and no - they can be let out - providing they don't mix with wild birds - you haven't been following the thread have you?

The SHU are following the latest guidelines. Sadly Roland, you are behind with the latest updates 13 December 2016 at 09.15 Following a number of telephone calls with APHA/DEFRA officers yesterday I can confirm that the restriction relating to pigeons has been lifted. Fanciers are reminded that every step should be taken to avoid pigeons coming into contact with wild birds including drinking from the same water. Ian Evans General Manager

There is only one mandatory vaccine - for PMV that was in reply to kyleakin lofts post re out of date etc vaccine
-
You need to vaccinate your pigeons collectively. Your club being responsible for ordering the vaccine Someone who is responsible for storing the vaccine and vaccinating the birds - arranging the timetable to vaccinate all members birds The secretary or treasurer issues the invoices to charge the member for the vaccine used Simples - no waste (or less waste) Club buys in bulk - cheaper for the members overall

Young Bird Sickness Causes and Clinical Signs: As its name implies this condition affects young birds and if severe can be fatal. Although affected birds show generally similar signs of holding corn in their crop, depression and scour, the disease can be due to a variety of viruses and bacteria and not all are necessarily present in an outbreak of disease. Viruses that have been isolated from affected birds include Circovirus, Adenovirus and Herpesvirus and bacteria that have been isolated include Salmonella and certain strains of E.coli. Treatment: Treatment of Young Bird Sickness is based on controlling the bacteria with antibiotics and supporting the birds with re-hydration products, tonics and vitamins as they fight the viral infections. http://www.sandhillvet.co.uk/html/pigeon_service_management_diseases.html

And contradicted by the RPRA Update at 17.00 12th December 2016 Since the update below I have been in regular contact with DEFRA/Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA). During this period members and organisations have been given conflicting advice in relation to pigeons. However, the advice I have been given is that the compulsory confinement of pigeons remains and that anyone releasing pigeons outside of the loft may be liable to prosecution. Please be assured that I am doing everything possible to get this restriction lifted. Ian Evans General Manager http://www.rpra.org/avian-influenza-bird-flu-prevention-zone/

REDCHEQHEN replied to eastcoaster's topic in Notice Board
I remember seeing an NFC result not too long ago (within the last five years) and somebody from Scotland timed in 2 within seconds of each other I'm sure it was just over 800 miles (802?) Maybe 2nd day? -
He was misinformed - please do click on the links for the official stance
