  1. Great idea sure to help a certain campaign in Scotland
  2. I got the usual letter this morning from Unikon trying to persuade me to have our pigeon club join their much vaunted " Unikon Club" at a cost of £78. They offer the so called benefits of discounted ring prices and battery replacements on club equipment. ( after 5 years membership). I do not know of any club in the Solway which has joined this scheme, are there many clubs in Scotland which have joined? Additionally why will Unikon not supply clubs with an up to date ringer including a radio clock?
  3. British Army in the Suez Canal Zone 1951 to 1953.There was an armed revolution that took place against what was at that time the legit Egyptian government. The Brits were caught in the middle.I spent Hogmanay 1952 in a slit trench with a Lee Enfield .303 for company.I was not quite 19 years old.All ancient history now.some friends unfortunately lost their lives and the Government refused to recognise it as a legitimate campaign for many years until pressure from veterans forced them to concede and we all got a medal.Like the man's uncle I thought about refusing the medal but then I thought about them that did not make it back!
  4. Interesting post I served in the Middle East and was granted a medal about 50 years later.
  5. I do not wish to say any more on this thread which I started as the very idea of the Scottish people controlling their own destiny seems to infuriate some of the members on this site.,good luck to everyone for the new year and the 2014 racing season.
  6. Sorry but it is not the reasonable and sensible guys of whom there are plenty that makes this site so appealing
  7. Thank you Peter I am aware of the disastrous Darien adventure, just as I am aware of the merciless manner in which we were treated by the neighbours after that fiasco and I have no doubt you have heard of " Sic a parcel o' rogues in a nation" when we wrre bought and sold for English gold but times have changed and Auld Scotia has changed.
  8. No I am not prepared to do that but I am prepared to consider your last comment as a sort of half withdrawal of your previous comment so accordingly I hereby publicly relinquish your tube status, but I still think your opinions are seriously detrimental to our country.
  9. You do not like that's fine but slightly different from the way you chose to describe the Deputy First Minister of Scotland
  10. Okay hotrod you are certainly entitled to your opinions but there is no need for ridiculous personal insults on conviction politicians if you are prepared to withdraw these comments I will be delighted to apologise.n
  11. What is wrong with you guys, maybes we cannnae afford it whine, whine.Maybee we will not be able to use the pound whine whine, maybe the oil will run out whine whine and the most ridiculous of all Nicola Sturgeon who is widely recognised as the most effective politician in the UK bar none is ridiculed by some tube on this suite.Geeza break for the love of God and have a little faith in your country and vote yes and persuade all your friends and neighbours to vote yes.

  13. Yeah well it is now. 2.45 am on New Year's Day, and next month I will be 81 years old and ifI can live long enough to see the independence of my beloved native country I will die happy.Incifdentally my three children and three grandchildren and al my extended family have got the message

  20. Excellent stuff Michael you have taught me everything I know about racing pigeons.
  21. As a young man I served with John Orr who was in Lockerbie within hours of the disaster and subsequently ran the enquiry with dignity and compassion typical of the Scottish Police Service despite many pressures from foreign organisations. Like every one else my thoughts today are with the relatives of the victims of this outrage.
  22. May I wish all Pigeons Basics members and their families a merry Christmas and a happy and prosperous New Year. Walter Swanston Lockerbie Racing Pigeon Club.
