  1. Never bothered with lights as never had to but if I had to have them would definately have a dimmer switch on them as birds could easily damage new flights etc trying to get back onto perches as you put the light out,at least with a dimmer switch the light will fade gradually so birds will perch up before the lights go out completely.
  2. Problem with shavings is the mess it leaves at liberation points,I can remember only a few years back that the RPRA stopped feds using shavings because of the above, infact the racepoints would not let anybody on the site if you had shavings in the crates,we have been using wire bottons in our crates for years now but I must admit I like to see the birds lay down on a bed of shavings.
  3. People were asking the same thing over 50 years ago and we still dont know, had 2 birds return yesterday 1 from the first race on 24/7/2010 bye the look of his feathers would think he as been living rough, the other was lost 2 weeks ago looks as if this ones been in somewhere.
  4. So in your opinion would it be right to say that strains dont come into then.
  5. We will be right in the SH.. if we dont make our way home.
  6. You could look through the ring list and see if there are any clubs in your area and then give the secretary a ring,if you havnt got a ring list you can get it on the RPRA website.
  7. 16 X 8 STOCK LOFT 2 SECTIONS 24 NEST BOXES AND LARGE FLIGHTS £500.MIKE STADDON SOMERSET.01460 76458 OR 07779 969281.
  8. Do people sell you the ones off the pairs that are breeding the winners though as i,m sure not all of his pairs are breeding winners.
  9. Our longest fed race was 350 miles the fed charge was £2.33 per bird,we charged £3 a bird in the club the rest goes as prizemoney. The cheapest inland fed race was .38p a bird the dearest .61p that was for a 107 mile race.
  10. Why wouldnt a fed be able to afford to go anywhere, in our fed if it cost the fed £1000 to go somewhere and only 250 birds went then the members who sent would pay £4 a bird simple, same with any race each member pays a equal amount.
  11. You will have to let them know it you want to leave it in to go in the yearling races, but it does cost £150 to enter.
  12. I would say over half of those will be entered back in for next years yearling races, dont think there,s ever been a problem with some not selling.

  15. Do you insure Taxi,s mate, dont need any at the moment but might give you a ring when mines up.
  16. Our club as 2 differant types of ETS and also 3 or 4 members that still use ordinary clocks, everything works well, not sure what you mean by how to manage between both lots of clocks, you will still find that the best flyer in your club will still be the same with ETS infact he is likely to be better as with ETS you tend to clock in more pigeons. There will never be a time when fanciers are on equal terms as it is all down to how good your birds are.if you live next door to another member and you have a bird each from the race if yours walks over a pad and is clocked whereas he as to go into the loft and take a rubber off and clock it in you cant really say that he,s on equal terms with you, but then again neither is a guy who as open door trapping ,or a speed trap against someone say who as a sputnick,as for leaving the pads inside the loft after trapping you could take them out after but most fanciers have them permently fitted inside the loft,I personally take mine out after the season as finished. At the end of the day its still all about getting your birds home first whatever clocking and trapping system you have.

  24. First thing I do if I get a bird reported by a non fancier is check the ring list and find a club which is close to where the bird is,ring the sec.and explain the situation and ask him or her if they have a member living close by or could they suggest someone to you inthe area who could pick it up and check it over, never had a problem, done it myself for other fanciers as well.
