  1. Wouldn't be happy with that if I lived in Ayrshire.
  2. No just the 3 of them from Kelso. I like to break from the norm training wise. She is a yearling and is seeing her 1st yb of the year.
  3. Was sent training with another 2. 1 was home in jig time, she was home the next morning at 8.30am so she wasn't local and 1 is still awol. So they ran into trouble.
  4. Had a hen spend the night out from sunday night to Monday morning and is looking okay and handling fine now. Her egg hatched tonight and she was set up with this race in mind but given the night out situation am apprehensive, what would people do? send or not? what would be the deciding factors in your decision?
  5. Timer from Newbury ready to rock n roll. Just sending the one but that's all it takes. I think we will get him just a matter of when and hopefully he has a safe passage home. Good luck to everyone taking part.
  6. Well done Andy title 28 and counting. Here's hoping he can break his Wimbledon duck. Interesting that Lendl made Andy do his old trick of missing the French open in preparation for Wimbledon. He is the greatest player never to win Wimbledon and no doubt that's his priority coaching Andy Murray.
  7. I have the same feeling about a yearling hen we are sending to Maidstone.
  8. Cheers John I would deffo like those books and we will talk soon. All the best for Maidstone mate. I am sure luck played a part in your success but it was a very small percentage and I am more sure that good doo keeping was 90% of the task :-)
  9. Way out of my depth on this thread now but like I said its a valuable learning tool being involved in this conversation, Derek Hay's story the other day was a major talking point in our house for the last few days. I am gutted for you guys, its a tough game and being new to it is daunting :-(
  10. Lessons that have yet to be learned here but they will come our way :-(
  11. Yeah 8 hours 20 mins on the wing but hes the sort that needs to be kept up to his work and as a yearling he raced 7 races in a row without any ill effects and this gave us the confidence to step up to the nationals with him. He was 57th Section E and 322 open and I expect him to be on the section result at the very least from Maidstone. We shall see, his breeding suggests he needs much further than inlands but that's new ground for us and that's a scary thing. How many people fail on human thoughts and not letting the doo's do what the doo's do? Like I said I am especially at a very early learning stage and will make mistakes but I believe in him 100%. Ps Kelso cancelled lol
  12. One was my timer from Newbury and hes had a few days off to recover and we figure he needs a toss before Maidstone (65 miles might be a bit much) still in our early days and trying to figure things out training wise between races, there isn't a blueprint but your comment is not lost on me. Cheers!
  13. So Kelso (65 miles) is a bad idea for our two Maidstone hopefuls on Sunday?
  14. Haha nothing makes the old mans blood boil more than a doo landing on the wrong roof and even thinking about taking a drink from the gutter! he torn himself inside out to get them to stop it and the answer was very simple in the end and he stopped it. It always amazes me how we are on the same page every day when looking after our doo's but race day is something completely different. We work like clock work Monday to Friday and a sunday but a Saturday is just mental lol
  15. you seen the tv ad for the madchester album being sold as a fathers day gift! stone roses, happy Mondays. 808 state! Man does it make me feel old lol
  16. lol good one mate and a cracking pic as well. Partnerships have many benefits but one of them is not both partners waiting at the loft for the doo's to come home. Rab and I are hilarious, our neighbours get a right laugh at us. I sit in my chair and wait, silent just thinking the doo is just around the corner and who the heck knows what goes on in Rab's head! 30 cups of tea, pacing up and down the garden and asking the time every 30 seconds then I freak out and shout "where the **** are they" and hes like WTF where did that come from?. Partnerships are fun lol
  17. Hi All, Thought it would be interesting to hear peoples stories about starting out flying with the SNFC? Your first races? when you won your first prize?, relive the moment you won your best prize so far? Any myths surrounding the races? stories about birds performing heroics etc I know some people get a bit shy about achievements and talking about them but my own feeling is "if you win it then you should be proud of it". As a brand new member of the SNFC this year I have really fallen for the history of the races and the previous winners of the open and in particular our Section, Section E. I have really been inspired by how well local fanciers to me have done over the years and we definitely plan to make our mark (the arrogance of a youthful 38 year old eh? lol). Good luck for Maidstone everyone. I look forward to hearing some stories. Andy
