  1. Hi Ryan Thank you for taking the time to answer my question and well done on a great result
  2. I think mine would if I let them out twice a day when the races get longer but I prefer to have them out just once a day I don't always let them out on a Monday and never on a Sunday
  3. I don't really but when I increase the food or type of food they will towards the end of the week. 45 mins once a day is fine with me
  4. I fly cocks and hens to there own section so not really roundabout My hens flew for 1 hr 5 mins this morning the cocks 40 mins then down and after 15 mins they went for 30 mins more I think the hens will fly more once the weather warms up Yesterday they flew around 40 mins each
  5. I would think expert fanciers like Ryan would judge better than average fliers for example how would fats be fed if a race is flown one week from 150 miles in a head wind and the next week100 miles in a tail wind surely the amount of fat seeds fed would differ and I would think my question would be of interest to many in order to understand the thinking behind the use of fat seeds
  6. Hi Ryan I have enjoyed reading your blog very much I would like to ask if you don't mind how do you judge the fat amount you feed the birds , I struggle to understand how many grams of fat is retained and how to know if the fat stored is correct for the amount of miles they will fly taking into account mileage and wind etc My concern being that I feed to much fat and it becomes a extra load to carry that is not required for flight as the carbs would not be used fully for the length of flight.
  7. Yes of course that's why I asked how Greenlands found the mixture he was using ,in the main due to the fact its £9.75 and looks clean to me I wanted to ask to see if he was still using the breed and sport mx and his findings
  8. Sorry mate I thought you wes using it instead of superstar to race on must have got the wrong end of the stick
  9. Hi Lindsay How did you find the breed/ race mix I ask as I was going to feed Gerry in the morning and the pro sport mix at night then the sport mix both feeds at the end of the week It looks a nice clean mix
  10. That's what I would think Be interested in what others think as I would feed the system the other way around just adding some fats to it late in the week had I not have read previously how it should be fed in conjunction with superstar
  11. Ok Peter look forward to your finding
  12. Is it equal amounts of each corn Peter and then 30 per cent barley mine have 30 grams and 20 per cent barley of a mix very much like that but without the sunflower for now but only do 45 mins
  13. They look really well

    Garlic

In what form do you prefer to use it Thanks
  15. neila

    Garlic

What form do members prefer to use garlic in I crush a clove and add it to the drinkers or in a bottle overnight then add it to the drinker as I don't like to leave it in the drinker to long in mild weather if I am away working for a few days do members prefer the oil or leave it in water then add the water to the drinker? I read recently a manufacturer claimed that there oil was more of a benefit than just living the clove in water With the oils I can't help but think what ever the base oil they use would be more fattening due to the oil than using the garlic in water alone
  16. Nice loft Just thinking that the length the roof over hangs the front could slow your trapping a bit
  17. I did the same by adding 50 per cent beans during breeding I was thinking of using it during the old bird season at one time with 30 per cent beans on a Sunday and 30 per cent barley Monday and Tuesday then straight or with some extra carbs and fat Thursday I am no expert on corn but it looks a good mix for the price, just not sure why it is so cheap as to my untrained eye it looks clean and a. decent balance of grains to use as a base
  18. I see this mix is now called Classic due to a rebranding and. priced at £9.95 in my local corn shop ,still looks a nice clean mx
  19. Cheers Wiley
  20. One little concern I have with this plan is when I tried a similar method (although using beans )although the hens flew well in the morning I found the cocks didn't so I wonder if the barley would be better in each cocks box. My thinking being that maybe they didn't leave the box often enough during the day to top up and by the time they were let out they never had the energy to fly like the hens that were on v Perch's so may have being using the hopper more during the day
  21. Cheers Wiley You have been great help
  22. Cheers Wiley You have been great help
  23. Yes that makes perfect sense to me Wiley ,I understand it's not your way to race and are helping with my work problem which I wish to improve and I agree the protein could be left longer maybe to Friday or even Sunday of week one in a two week build Would yo think 20 grams early in the week going to 35 grams about right in a one week build
  24. Cheers Wiley If you wanted to last the season would you at some point move to beans or peas from barley or use beans say every Sunday and Monday then continue with barley as you posted Thanks for your posts mate it's good to get another angle with my problem
  25. I should have added in the previous seasons I have fed 20 grass of Gerry to late in the week and left a beans in front of them and increased the carbs and fats if needed the last few days depending on distance but my only interest was over 200 miles to on the day races so maybe I could change the beans to barley and use more of a balanced sport mix as you mention Wiley
