walterboswell59 replied to Rooster J. Cogburn's topic in Notice Board
thanks for putting this up lewis was good to read about my old pal john i was with him when he was presented with the tropy in the picture and as john mc fall says he was the calmest man in hamilton when he came into the railway club the night he won 1st section 7th open with strathclyde lass me and vince made up for him drinking all night lol great times and great pigeon man that died to young or would have won a lot more swear i can smell his pipe sometimes when im sitting waiting on the doos i had more feenie birds than anyone in hamilton at that time john was the first good fancier id ever known to feed lots of barley to his birds during racing deff was chad thought you new john -

thanks for putting this up m8 read most of it before but see the eyes of my birds are the same eyes as some of the old aarden champions and there sires and grandsires in the peds im not an eyesign man as i think its just a family trait but have noticed putting together certain types of eyes in the aarden strain breeds winners for me -
so was the last one i got off them bill but they were in with other birds before so was not to sure m8

-
ive had a few stock cocks like that frank they only breed an odd winner but there children are much more prolific in the stock loft more so with the inbred cocks as if it skips a genenaration

its to many m8 they will struggle with three never mined four but if you can keep them alive for 3 or 4 days by taking out the ones that have a full crop of milk then put them back when the others are full then you can slip two under another pair because the pair will keep feeding the biggest ones first and the others get weeker and smaller you can help them by feeding pellets its softer and when they run out of pigeon milk they will try to feed hard grain which the youngbirds struggle to digest hope this helps

i put two bricks on the floor with a bit of board on top so they can get on to then leave the top off the drinker for a few days so they can see the water better they soon learn the day after you wean them just dip there beak in water and they will get the hang of it m8 -

well at the time that was my thinking frank but as i say the next year i missed the gold cup with being in hospital but there brothers and sisters went on to be 1st club 8th sect 105th open ypres 5th 8th 13th sect 11th 35th and 94th open clermont 521 miles to me so ill see what happens in the gold cup this year as im not kidded by the clermont race only 10 day birds and a north east wind its still not 560 if you know what i mean i know messac was a disaster race but even if they had turned up a few days later i would have been happy but nothing its hard to take when you put that much work in m8

we all remember our good races with the birds the thrills and kicks we get from our great hobby the good times but we all have our sickeners in which ive had many and no dout will have many more but this one sticks in my mind in 2011 i was happy that i had suceeded in building a cracking team of jan aarden pigeons that were winning in club fed and nationals from 60 to 400 miles against big birdage and now wanted them to prove they could win across the water and in 2011 i won 7 national deplomas 34 one yearling hen was 1st club 34th west section eastbourne national 392 miles timed at 10 24 from a late lib only bird in club on the day 3 birds scored in ypres national over 400 miles the first being 7th west sect 45th open and the other two well in taking good national positions so i thought i had cracked my national bogey across the water by only sending the best bred and best racers trained into great condition and motivated to the nest condition each bird liked best 2012 would be my year to have a real crack at the gold cup with the 4 best birds i had the no one pigeon a cheq hen was bred from my old velje cock he is a dbl g son the dam was a dbl g daughter of de schlangen barceloana the cheq hen had won as a yb won at the coast 350 miles as yearling and was the bird that was 7th sect 45th open ypres as a 2 year old the cheq pied hen that was only bird in club from eastborne was bred from my old son of debarcelona and my direct daughter of smaraged 2 so bred from a son and daughter of two great barcelona winners the blue pied cock had been 1st as a yb 9th section eastbourne national as a yearling and was full brother to my 7th section ypres hen the 4th bird a wee red cock was bred from my direct son of vale barcelona and my kuyper spin hen he was a 2yr old latebred and his first year racing was 2nd sect fed newark 8th sect fed leicester so four good pigeons bred for the job all i had to do was put the work in and get them right and id get one lol wrong the birds had four races out to 250 miles then i gave them the open bowl and set them down the the way each bird liked it the cheq hen sit overdue then sliped a chipping egg on basketing day the cheq pied hen on a two day old yb first of the year the blue pied cock would be on a big yb and looking at the hen and the wee red cocks hen would be taken away to leave him to bond with a 8 day old yb the way he had won before then the hard work got up every morning at 4 oclock starting 14 days to basketing for the messac gold cup race let out the 4 birds to fly for one hour back in a wee pick then the rest out breakfast shower basket the birds for 25 mile toss with the van at ten oclock birds home 11 30 in pick off to work home 5 oclock rest of the birds out for two hours dinner for me birds in fed 9 oclock the four nat birds out flag if needed till 10 30 this to get them used to flying at dawn and dusk so they had no fear and to be super fit this i did every day and night for 12 days up to the saturday before the race then the open bowl til tues basketing they were the best bred best conditioned birds id sent to any race in my life they handled super corky and keen as mustard i must get one id saved 300 pounds to gamble them sent the birds it was comented at marking they were in great condition another opinion gave me a we lift the winnings were spent lol the birds were up and i waited on my super doos the race was a disaster dave elliot had timed a great pigeon 20 odd miles up the road from me to win the gold cup i was pleased for davie but i was hurting not a feather to this day 4 good pigeons all that work time and effort and nothing i was sick as a parrot how and why i did not know did i do it wrong or can the aardens not do the 500 miles into the west of scotland i was down for a long time getting beat has never bothered me before but not even getting bird did at the end of that season i was convinced i needed a good old scottish west section family to cross with my aardens and spent 700 pounds at kerr stainthorpes sale on two cracking cocks that had scored in nationals over 500 miles and an inbred hen only for the aardens to come out in 2013 to win 18 national tickets 4 across the water and three over 520 miles with an 11th open clermont national the best layed plans of mice and men eh but thats how we love it guys whats been your biggest disapointment and why hope you enjoyed reading one of mine
