    Bad Start

Let my birds out this morning, first time since last September. Within 5 minutes, two peregrines chasing them - birds are scattered everywhere.
  2. Lot 8 £50 please.
  3. Does anyone on here use an electric fence round their lofts to keep cats / foxes at bay ? Would be interested to hear your opinion as how successful it worked out ?

    Hit Again.

    Sorry to hear this Pete
  5. Brilliant !
  6. An interesting second article this week too, "Simply The Best"
  7. Anything outside looking in on the sitting birds, causing them to lift ??
  8. Typical of a hen sparrowhawk attack

    Peregrine

Dundee, first started to get bother with them, 2004. Worst time of the year is early May when my youngsters are taking to the wing, and scattered over the sky. Usually loose a couple at that time, not so bad once they are flying in a team.

    Peregrine

Watched a cock peregrine above my loft today, carrying it's "catch" struggling against the strong wind. Not seen the hen as yet this year, no doubt she will appear soon enough
  12. Was at LSC quiz last night and this question came up. Davie Elliot stated he has not cleaned his loft for 2 1/2 years, the droppings are now coming up through the floor grills and that's the way he likes it. As long as every thing is absolutely dry he has no problem with these conditions. He even went on to say, when he moved his lofts a few years ago, be bagged all the old droppings and placed them in the loft at it's new location. The other panellist, Stuart Maskame, cleaned his lofts every day throughout the racing season and once a week during the off season. As they say many roads lead to Rome.
  13. First class night, company and hospitality second to none
  14. RIP
  15. A section winner sometimes gets the credit, whereas a pigeon with several national diplomas can be overlooked But nevertheless some doo ! Not many about with these quality performances, EVEN IN THE GLORY YEARS
  16. A fantastic pigeon Derek What a brilliant occasion these Rennes races must have been . I had an article on you and your grandfather, a couple of Blue Hens had exceptional results too if my memory is correct ? It may have been written by John Cushley and appeared in The Gazette. I have searched high and low for it but unable to find it ?? If you have it, sure it would be of real interest to others on here too. These outstanding distance pigeons give me a real buzz and thanks for sharing.
  17. Perhaps another couple of lofts worthy of a mention from the Greengairs area - Linden & Shaw, winners of 1st West section 5th open Rennes, with their great pigeon "Red Hackle". The other - Alex Geddes who was responsible for breeding and racing some exception pigeons. One of his birds, a Red Grizzle hen ended up with Davie Scott, Brechin via his cousin Albert Scott. The Geddes Grizzle hen crossed with his own family, bred many good channel pigeons for Davie. I have no doubt that Jim Donaldson, Peterhead base family would relate back to the Geddes Grizzle hen via Davie Scott.
  18. Yes a Red Cock, he's been included in several articles over the years.
  19. Yip, a very good article. Was interested to note that Tommy Morgan, Cairnhill called his good hen "Champion Agnes", I am virtually certain H. & T. McNeil's Gold Award winner, [ First Gold Award in the West Section] mentioned in the last paragraph of the article, was also named "Agnes".
  20. That's some stamp of a pigeon, "Glen Hero", featured in this weeks Joe Murphy column - quite something !
  21. Your spot on
  22. Old George [ Bob ] Robbie from Dundee was a great believer in Iodine in the drinking water once a week. The amount he used was 3 drops per drinker. His birds were always in exceptional order and he was hard to beat on a Saturday. At the shows he would win more than his share. Any cuts / injuries sustained by the bird - out came the Iodine and he would lash it on. Forty years on and I still haven't seen youngsters reared to the standard that old Bob managed. Iodine was probably just a component of his all round good management.
