  1. Am 2/7 at this time. All birds went last week and retuned on the day. They have been flying round the loft for 40 mins every day. Not a good day for men and only 9 Old birds left in loft. Could be another short old bird season for me. 5 were two year olds and two yearlings. 😕
  2. 59 miles and about 1.5 hours drive one way. Now that man is a credit to our sport.😃
  3. Thank god it's not just my Doos that are slow this weekend. 😳
  4. I attended the meeting yesterday as an experience of the fed process and have a couple of observations, I estimate from the voting numbers that there were approximately 180-190 people in the room. There appeared to be quite an amount of confusion as to the items of business to be discussed, voting process and agreed conclusions. This observation is made of all in the room not just the officials conducting the meeting. I am interested to understand the voting process since it appeared to based on attending numbers not fed club representatives. Does this not skew the result to any club which had a large number of members in attendance, rather than each club having a single vote on each proposal or item of business being discussed. There were a couple of occasions when, quite rightly an attending member wish to raise a view, but was unable to be heard due to shouted interruption by other attendees. This interruption was also amplified by people wishing to speak remaining seated and thus not enabling good order to be maintained so their view could be heard or responded to by the top table. I found other items somewhat confusing with regard to the Lanarkshire Fed business and SNFC. Surely, if member as part of the fed clubs wish to co-ordinate with any other flying organisation then a formal proposal, with second, should be submitted to the fed AGM. The confusion caused was clear when, after the 2017 racing proposal had been voted on and accepted, it was raised by a member that the assumed SNFC dates had been changed and the did not match information previously discussed, Also voted upon was the proposal to change section formats and as previously stated above would a room vote not skew the result due to the particular numbers of attendance of a particular club. I am not qualified or in any way familiar with the Fed procedures or rules and only wish to raise the above as personal observations. Perhaps the following would assist in future events of this type. 1. Fed publish a clear agenda to all clubs or members in advance of the meeting, with any supporting information or proposals. 2. Fed instruct each club to arrange for each item on the agenda to be discussed at club level prior tot hefted meeting and club representative directed as to how to vote at e Fed meeting. 3. All fed members are welcomed and encouraged to attend the fed meeting however the voting is indicated by the designated club representative, thus reflecting club members views, ensuring one club one vote and making officials job much simpler. 4. Good order and respect is shown by all attending and particularly to club and fed officials and any member who stands and is invited to speak without interruption. 5. Any attendee who objects to procedure, conduct or order of business simple stands and when invited by the chair voices that objection and, if not resolved by discussion, sits down and sumbits a formal written objection at a future date. 6. All meeting should be terminated with any other business which would allow anybody to raise items which may be responded to at the meeting or clear instruction agreed as to resolving any item raised at a future date. I will close with the reiteration that I fully support any club or fed official and the good job done by them for the further of our sport. Thoughts over.
  5. Dignified Canada should be proud, Very Proud
  6. Last year we had four cars to insure and at the time were with one of the well known multi car providers. When renewal came the increase in cost was huge and we decide the kids could get their own insurance and thus I could shop around. We saved a fortune. It is standard practice now a day for automatic renewals to be hiked up annual charge and if you don't check the cost can come as a nasty surprise. Also, make sure you are comparing all the add on charges, such as voluntary excess, windscreen replacement, legal fee cover, courtesy car etc. as these have a nasty habit of being hidden costs which bite you when something happens ( God Forbined ) Sounds a good price for a years cover but depends on what is included. Cheers
  7. Happy too Aluv, I'll leave the biscuits in doo house. Lol Cheers Dave
  8. Thanks for the kind words guys. Onward and upward. Just thinking about upcoming season to distract me lol
  9. After being made redundant before Xmas I have all the time in the world to............ Do those odd jobs around the house, Become a professional house husband and domestic chore God.(Still work in progress), Sort out my birds and sit talk sh** to them when everybody else is working, Spend hours looking on 'Thinternet' for a job that pays more than two and six an hour, Enjoy waking up at stupid o'clock in the morning with a brain running overtime about the future, Convince the dog that ANOTHER walk will do him good. (He thinks I have lost the plot) All this 'free time' and it's driving me bonkers as you can tell by this post. Anybody at home during the week fancy inviting me for a loft visit, I will bring the biscuits if you put kettle on. LOL Ps. Other half say stop worrying about the morgage as I will be back in harness soon enough. Life, never predictable.

    Shu Show

Second year I have been and I think it was better this year. Not may stall holders which does make it seem quite but the show pens in the second hall were interesting and something to look at. I went upstairs to the moot which was very polite and interesting with the guys at the front being very honest. Maybe this is something to build on for the future. Also it was interesting that there was a sheep auction was on in one of the sales rooms at the same tine so we got non fanciers looking at our stock. Seems sheep go for a hefty price too, a stud ewe went for £850 while I was watching....................who knew !!!!!!!
  13. Confinement is about risk management to my mind. There may not be any cases here or for that matter the rest of the U.K. however common sense says if exposure to the risk can be reduce before any outbreak gets a foothold then large scale infection is reduced. Just think. About how you would feel if your birds got infected and started dropping of the perches. At least at this time of year the quite and rest will not do any harm and we stand a good chance of eliminating the threat of an outbreak in the racing season. What would we prefer, confinement now and reduce the risk or no racing in 2017. Ask any pig or cattle farmer what a nation wide infectious diseases can do to livelihoods and hobbies - foot and mouth scarred may. Think it through. My birds will not be out for the 30 days
  14. The POINT is that regardless of nationality, national allegiance, national pride or long held believe of wrong doings, simple respect for each other and civil behaviour while representing your country, team or gang is not to much to ask and seems to be something that is accepted as not necessary in the name of supporting a team in sport. It is not a lot to ask to behave well, clean up your rubbish and maintain good humour and friendly batter while enjoying the day out. But then again I was brought up right. Rant over, shall now crawl back into my cave.
  15. So, decides for various reasons to move loft from south end of garden to north end, but it still faces south. Was going to take it to bits and rebuild on new base. No. 1 son says nah, do it like the Egyptians, in one piece with rollers and wood track. So Saturday me ,he and the boss start by just trying to rotate it through 90 degrees to run it across garden. expletive remove it took us all day to get it turn by ,manual labour. We all collapsed that evening, not even able to stand up and in bed by 20.30 hours. Today I think, sod that, took down my garden fence and got the loft hitch up with rope and candle wax and string. Any way we hauled it across garden and got it on new base by 17.00 with birds fed and watered. We all agreed we ain't never doing that sort of s### again. Sod the Egyptians they can keep their heaving heavy rocks to build pyramids. Lol But the birds enjoyed the ride. 🤕
  16. Sadly I have to agree. Family bought me 2 eight bird baskets last year as birthday presents. The liner in one has come away and frayed, tangling in the birds feet. The construction uses metal twisted wire and heavy duty steel clips to hold panels together and this prevents access into the basket via a lid like the old baskets. Would I buy any more ? No. Just wish we could get the old ones with good lids and straps to secure. :-(
  17. Established contact so no worries now Cheers Dave
