  1. as you say its no wonder we get bad press,i drove to southampton to collect a yb from a non fancier and she was amazed when i actually got to her house as she,d been told that we fanciers never want our birds back and that she was wasting her time and we wonder why we get so few lost birds reported? id make him send for it the ungrateful git kev
  2. whats your thoughts on the k index factor/presto warnings having an effect on a pigeons homing instinct? if im right we had a presto warning within the last few days and we all know how bad returns have been in the yb races this weekend kev

    Strays

i agree this year ive driven to ipswich and southampton to pick up my birds that have gone awol and would have been glad to collect or send for any other ones that got reported we all know it aint cheap getting our birds back home but they are our birds so our responsibility the least fanciers can do is be polite when we report one of theirs but it now seems to be out of sight out of mind for some fanciers
  4. hi all, some of u may remember that i had a post saying that im happy to collect strays within a 20 mile radius of crawley, west sussex this new post is just to let fanciers (and non fanciers)know that i now have a new mobile no which is 07539 625844 i normally cover this area for work so am more than happy to help out if i can all the best kev
  5. i couldnt agree more billt i drove down to southampton to collect one of my yb,s from a non fancier who was told by her neighbour that she was wasting her time reporting it as we wouldnt want it back if non fanciers go to the trouble of reporting our birds then the least we can do is collect them and remember to thank them for doing it kev

    Rpra Hawkwatch

fxckxng things are a nuisance if they aint going after my birds around my loft in my back garden in the evenings then they are after the wild birds at first light sometimes they will grab a starling outside my front bedroom window but the starlings make a racket so it wakes me and i can usually get out in time to save them as the s/hawk takes off as soon as i open my front door i cant believe that its got this bad within the last 2 years as it seems that one minute i was reading about bop attacks in the rp/bhw and the next thing its happening to me i think its now got to the stage where all fanciers have been hit by a bop attack whether u live in the country or in the city and if u havnt it will only be a matter of time kev

    Cider Vinegar

i give a teaspoonful to 2 litres of water 2-3 days a week and my birds look good on it i buy apple cider vinegar from a health food shop and never had any probs healthwise since using it is there any difference between apple cider vinegar and cider vinegar? kev
  9. did anyone read jeremy clarksons column in the sun newspaper dated sat june 5th 2010 apparently a weirdbeard (his words, not mine) tried to argue that the sparrow was in decline because of cars he (clarkson)then sarcastically states that it has nothing to do with the remarkable comeback of the sparrowhawk in britain which has that name because it eats sparrows ok its only a small article in the sun but the s/hawk problem now seems to be getting some coverage in our newspapers which can only be a good thing for us fanciers and our pigeons and wild birds sooner or later the the general public will be aware of the carnage that takes place daily by s/hawks and hopefully the rspb will eventually run out of excuses and admit there is a problem but i wont hold my breath kev
  10. thanks for your help jannie i foned the rpra today and tracked the owner down to southampton but nobody was home when i called so bird will prob be released tmoro morning if weather ok and thats what owner wants? the owner has tried to ring me but i missed his call as i was down the loft but i will ring him back again to sort things and hopefully the bird will make its way back home tmoro after 2 nights b and b with me theres nothing more i like then when a fancier rings me to tell me that his/her bird has arrived home safe after ive released it kev

  15. well id take them back to the same spot to build their confidence up if they are taking 2 hours to get home from 1.1 mile then i wouldnt have thought they are ready to go any further just yet, at least youve still got all your yb,s and as they say patience is a virtue you can take them 5 miles next time dave 1.1 mile isnt far but i know fanciers who release their yb,s from their back gardens on the 1st toss just to get them used to flying from basket to loft good luck mate kev
  16. thanx for your help guys but ended up driving there to collect it kev
  17. been hit twice in 3 days now at my loft by s/hawks and to top it all i was woken at 5.40 this morning by the local wild birds being very loud and making alarm calls to each other i assumed it was a cat outside but when i looked out of my front bedroom window i saw a s/hawk on top of something on the green outside of my neighbours house so on went my dressing gown and i went charging out the front door like a raving lunatic, the hawk took off when it saw me but dropped a starling as it went, the starling took off in blind panic and flew straight into the side of a refuse bin, i looked around for the hawk in case it returned for its breakfast and when i checked the refuse bin area the starling was gone so hopefully it made good its escape? the bop situation really has got beyond a joke now, what we need is legal representation to argue our case so we can legally defend our pigeons against bop attacks, as was stated in the letters page of the pigeon weeklies a while back kev
  18. all sorted now owner traced kev

  23. hi ive been hit again today by the sparrowhawk and am now really losing heart, when i do open my loft up to let my birds out only about a third of them leave the loft and when they do some of them have their heads cocked looking up into the sky with the others staying put inside and not wanting to venture outside i had a fancier collect one of his birds from me today that came in as a stray he had released his birds on a training toss near gatwick airport but before they could get their bearings a s/hawk went right into the middle of them scattering them in all directions > then while visiting a friend earlier i heard a commotion at the back of the flats he lives in with all the wild birds making a racket, when i went outside i found a s/hawk on top of a blackbird or starling which it flew off with when i tried to get near to it > it really is now getting beyond a joke and the things are everywhere i really cant see how we are gonna turn things around now and am feeling really pxssed off at the moment sorry to put you all on a downer but if things stay as they are we aint gonna be able to excercise our birds let alone train/race them to top it all my mate jumped to the s/hawks defence explaining that it probably hadnt eaten for days and was probably starving otherwise it wouldnt be attacking birds as they all normally live together rant over comments welcome kev
  24. well done to u and your misses for encouraging the young lad and giving him more yb,s especially at a time when he was upset after losing one he had taken a liking to he could easily have lost all interest after the peregrine attack but you encouraged him to carry on and all credit to you and your other half for doing that i hope he does well with his latest gifts from you again well done to you both kev
  25. chris how much red cell are u putting in the drinkers? i doubt its that but i was told that if u give to much red cell that it can be toxic to pigeons but i would have thought u would have to put a lot in :-/ i put a small spoonful in to a 4 pint drinker once a week and mine are fine i think its the selenium in red cell that can be toxic for pigeons in large amounts but not 100 per cent on that :-/ maybe someone on here knows ? hope u find the cause mate kev
