my brothers raced them so grew up with them and got interested, they built me a little loft of my own when i was about 11 or 12 but i insisted on getting my own birds (which were an assortment of streeters and strays that i caught in derelict houses etc) so i could beat them at racing :) ;D ;D if i remember rightly i kept them prisoners for ages cos i was scared of losing them and when i did let them out most of them dissapeared pronto apart from an old mealy cock bird named fred and a few others, i then found out that my brother had reported the mealy cock and the owner wanted it back ( boy did i chuck a wobbly ;D) anyway the mealy was sent back but returned to me twice before the owner eventually transferred it over to me apparently it had been a good racer for him but if i remember rightly its youngsters never did any good for my brothers, i know i should have reported the mealy when i got him but as a kid i didnt see it that way, they were the good old days i packed up about 10 years later and only just got restarted about 2 years ago kev

i dont know how bad the bop problem is like in your neck of the woods-maybe some got spooked by or taken by bops b4 they had a chance to return to u? sorry to be be all doom and gloom but its now become a sad fact of life also i drove to collect the few pigeons that i have had reported by non-fanciers and they were suprised that i even wanted them back let alone drove to collect them myself, alot of the general public are of the opinion that we wont want our birds back so dont bother to report them i collected my last one from portsmouth and the non-fancier who reported it (eventually)had it sitting in her garden for 2-3 days before ringing me as her neighbour had kindly pointed out to her that `they never want them back, (they obviously being us the fanciers) i think some of them just cant be ars-d to report them and to be honest how can we blame them especially the way some fanciers are when they have to send for birds that said brian i wish u luck and hope some do return all the best kev

painting the inside of your loft?
kev01293 replied to chrisbonnie's topic in Lofts, Fixtures & Fittings
well chris it sounds like youve pretty much got your loft roof sorted the most important thing is to make sure all the joins on the felt are sealed tight and you can do that with a blow torch of any size it will just take you longer ( or so my missus tells me :) ;D ;D) anyway mate as i said b4 feel free to pm me if u have any probs all the best kev -
painting the inside of your loft?
kev01293 replied to chrisbonnie's topic in Lofts, Fixtures & Fittings
hiya chris u should always use a bitumen primer (allow to dry) before laying the torch-on felt straight onto wood to make sure it bonds properly maybe youve laid the new torch-on felt straight onto the old felt so it may be ok but it might be an idea to check it after it rains im a roofer by trade so feel free to pm me if u need any advice good luck kev -
i wouldnt mind spending the night at the jurys inn opposite think of the fun u could have next morning with the right equipment
-
well done for making the effort to help a lost racing pigeon try leaving some seed and water where the pigeon normally sits or goes to (wild bird seed, rice, barley will do) if u can leave a large bowl of water out for it that would be great as they can become dehydrated after a long flight and need to get to water asap an update on any progress would be great and thank you for your help kevin

sorry to hear that mac when my labby crossbreed died a couple of years ago me and my family were devastated he used to go everywhere with me and i still miss him now his lead is still hanging in my hallway but he had a good life with us and at the end of the day thats the best way to look at it all the best kev

sorry to hear this sad news about your neighbours pigeons mike unfortunately this is becoming common nowadays and was probably done by spineless kids with nothing better to do > we,ve all seen them swaggering about outside the local shops with their chests puffed out but the truth of the matter is that they probably had to get pissed/stoned to muster up the bottle to carry out the killings of these poor pigeons,if it is local kids then no doubt they will want to impress others and word will soon get about locally who slaughtered these pigeons lets just hope its not another fancier who did this? either way they need taking somewhere quite and out of the way so they can feel some of the pain that they have caused your neighbour and his pigeons > i really hope you get to find out who is responsible for this and can deal with them
