my drinkers are the 4 pint grey plastic type and the feeders are the old type metal ones which ive had for a couple of years now without any trouble isnt duramitex sprayed onto inside of loft only or can it be used on birds in a weaker solution as a dip :-/ if it is depluming mite will i need something specific? maybe something like a head lice treatment from the chemists would work ? thanks for the help kev

well done jstoon for saving the stolen pigeons its a pity that the rspca couldnt act after u had fed the pigeons/rabbits :-/ surely the rspca can prosecute as there were dead rabbits on the premises that had been starved :-/ there is no excuse for animal cruelty and these people need to be severly punished but no doubt all they will get is a slap on the wrist (if that) or a holiday i suppose we can only be thankful that it wasnt our pigeons taken, im no angel myself but i abhor animal cruelty of any kind kev

had the same problem myself earlier this year and young, uns were only 5 days old, i fed them on babies milk through a syringe to start with and gradually started mixing canary seed in with the warm milk and then started hand feeding them maple peas that had been soaked in water with a multi vit mixed in for good measure, dont forget to check them an hour or so after feeding as they usually need water again as the grain will have absorbed most of the water in their crops, good luck and dont forget the babies milk-i swear by it kev

hi mb i agree with geronimo and bruno and definitely wouldnt leave a squeaker on the loft floor because it could be attacked by the other pigeons (i had a squeaker badly injured by a angry cock bird) i know it can be hard to keep them in their nestboxes when they start wandering but all you can do is keep your eye on them and try and make sure they dont leave their nestboxes until they are ready i personally would give them another 3-5 days before letting them roam about the loft its easy for them to jump out of the nestbox but they then find that they cant fly back up to it and if they stray into another nestbox thats when they are at risk of being attacked all the best kev

Help - Anyone in Litherland Area - North Liverpool
kev01293 replied to Simeon Turner's topic in Notice Board
well done to jimmy for making the effort to go and collect a stray yb from a non fancier who was good enough to rescue it, he,s done simeon a favour and showed joe public that not all fanciers are heartless and most of us do want our lost birds back, if we all pulled together im sure we could be of more help to each other at times like this kev ps i had a pigeon reported in southampton and when i arrived to collect it the lady was very suprised as she had been told that when a racing pigeon gets lost that its no longer wanted by the fancier and that she was wasting her time reporting it as the fancier wouldnt want the bird back any fancier such as jimmy who collects strays from non fanciers is doing a great P R job for the fancy well done mate -
have to agree with jimmy i splinted a yearlings broken leg for a week and although the pigeon is now walking ok and putting weight on the leg there is still some swelling 18 months later but the pigeon seems fine and doesnt seem to be suffering any discomfort at all kevin
-
maybe they will work their way home soon i hope so kev
-
it depends on how many pigeons you want to keep RA but you will need at least a 8x6ft shed because it wont take long before they start breeding and their numbers increase good luck and keep us all posted on here kev
-
i used pigeon health last year and they phoned results through to me the same day they received the droppings sample-my pigeons had a bacterial infection which was quickly treated with their medication, kev
-
well done peruzie for taking the time to deliver a lost bird to another fancier who cannot get to you :) kev

hi all, 5 days ago a 05 red pied cock of mine went missing and i had more or less given it up as lost/dead as its never nighted out before but today max the cat (my wifes cat :-/ > ) spent all morning staring into the air vent on the chimney breast in our living room ? after some heated discussion with my other half i took the vent off but couldnt see anything inside but thought i heard a grunt sounding something like a pigeon so chisseled some bricks out hoping it was my missing red pied and not a starling/whatever? anyway after shining a torch in i saw my red pied and after showing it some corn/water, and a bit of grappling i managed to pull him out and even though he,s a bit thinner/dirtier he seems ok and is now back in the loft as if nothing happened but it makes you wonder how many pigeons fall down chimneys never to be seen again im now having my chimney capped off to prevent it happening again, has this happened to many other fanciers as well??

got 2 agree with gangster on this as our so called police force wont do f--k all and at the end of the day its the only kind of justice these sh--b-gs understand kev >

i would give it another day of feeding it little and often dave and make sure its getting enough water then if it doesnt start to perk up maybe you could take it to a local pdsa or rspca? if it doesnt start to show some improvement soon then its obviously suffering from something other than exhaustion, i hope things improve soon dave? try keep us posted on here good luck kev
-
hi dave how is your stray getting on-is he/she eating and standing ok yet? if not id think about getting him/her to the nearest pdsa/vet kev :-/
-
ive got 2 agree with u guys i get alot of strays in and most (not all) just dont want 2 send for them they usually ask me to chuck them up the next morning (but most return) and when i then call them back they usually offer 2 transfer it over to me as they dont want it i recently had one fancier ask me to do something that i wont repeat on here so i reluctantly agreed to keep the pigeon and its still in my loft today but saying that some fanciers are pleased to know where their lost birds get to and are only too pleased to send for them but they are in the minority in my experience kev
-
it sounds to me as if its just weak from lack of food and water dave but i would still keep it isolated just to be on the safe side? if youve got the time your probabley better off feeding it little and often also making sure its getting enough water as pigeons usually go for a 2nd drink about 1 hr after eating, also i find a little bit of glucose in the water can help them perk up, well done for making the effort to help the pigeon, hopefully he/she will soon be back its feet kev ps i also read somewhere that half a brewers yeast tablet can work wonders on recovering pigeons

glad 2 hear he,s home safely steve, i was beginning to think that maybe he,d met a hawk on his way home but alls well that ends well :)

ive read about a pigeon courier service called pigeonexpress - has anyone on here tried them out ??
