  2. ive tried gently opening her wing today jim as u said and when i let it go it sort of went halfway back but she seems bright enough in herself so i will see how she go,s kev
  3. i wish i could help u out with that info tam as u gave me a copy when i had hawk problems but i only know the basics when it comes to pc,s,ive sent out a few copies myself but i rely on my daughter making my copies for me on her laptop which has a cd rewriter on it so she can run me off a copy in a few mins but its down to her having the time as she works all hours and is rarely at home, anyway im glad to say the cd still seems to be working for me with no hawk problems as yet-touch wood kev :)
  4. thanx 4 the replies lads,as u all agree on leaving the hen to heal up on her own then thats what im going to do thanx again kev
  5. thanx 2 greengrass, madmaxlofts, flyer, geraint parry, steve belbin and barlby lofts 4 all your help/replies its been 7 days now and my yearling hen is now walking around the garden with the injured wing still slightly lower than the good wing but she is now trying to fly but only managing to get into the lower nestboxes approx 1ft off the floor, her appetite is back now and im wondering wether i should strap her wing up or leave her as she is- i just hope that i havent caused any long term damage to the wing by not strapping it up on the day of injury? she was kept in a nestbox for a couple of days but started to perk up so i let her out to walk around the loft,id be grateful for any advice as to what i should do next? thanx kev

  10. hi,a neighbour called tonight about half hour after my birds had come in from excercise to say that one of my pigeons was in their garden and couldnt fly, i collected the pigeon (a yearling) and found that it had one wing hanging down which i assume is a broken wing? ive never had a pigeon with a broken wing before so do not know to treat it? any advice would be much appreciated as i obviously dont want to see the pigeon in pain and want to mend the wing if possible many thanks kevin :-/

    Sparrowhawk

hi paul, sorry to read of your hawk attack, i can send u a eagle owl cd if u want to try it? i havnt had a hawk attack for approx 3-4 months since i started playing it for an hour before letting my birds out,i i did send a couple of cd,s to other members on pigeonbasics but i dont know if it worked for them or not? all i can say is that i havnt had any hawk trouble since i started using the eagle owl cd and im hoping it will stay that way,pm me your address if u want a cd sent on to u kev
  14. hi lance, yeh i had the same problem with my birds a while back when they wouldnt fly for long so i sent off a droppings sample and it turned out that they had a bacterial infection, the infection was easily treated via their drinking water. pigeon health diagnostic services are running tests for £12.50 at the mo and they check for all the usual nasties like canker, cocci and worms as well as other types of infection (see todays racing pigeon mag for their ad) their tel no is 01206 842221 in case u need it,good luck kev
  15. some of my latebreds had really bad feathering and were small for their age, also some seemed unpredictable/nervous and most were lost off of the loft as squeekers which is not something that usually happens to me,as a novice i cant understand how them being latebreds can make such a vast difference to their feather quality and temperement ,they were the same way bred as my last youngsters and had the same feed and supplements but just didnt seem to be the same,my latebreds should have been in my friends loft sooner rather than later but circumstances prevented this happening, how the remaining latebreds come on in my friends loft remains to be seen kev :-/
  16. thanx 4 all the comments, its given me plenty to think about kev :
  17. yeh ive noticed that some of the latebreds (bred for a friend) were not of the same qaulity as my yb,s bred in season but the latebreds were reared on my usual breeding mix with added g40,s plus other breeding supplements as well, the latebreds just seemed unpredictable and were easily lost off the loft, in all honesty they should have been in my friends loft earlier which means he now has to resettle them again to his loft kev
  18. hi pete pigeonscout has said exactely what i was thinking, leave the baby with its parents kev :-/
  19. why is it that i tend to lose far more latebred yb,s as flyaways (about 40 per cent) when i dont have anywhere near the same amount of losses with my yb,s bred in the breeding season?? any answers/theories from anyone would be appreciated kev :-/
