We race from france into Ireland the same weekend of the gold cup race and both libs have been disasters only difference is the scotch birds have 400 miles or more of land to go down and get back up we dont ...our race has been won quiet a few times early next day birds crossing and going down to get back up again and carry on....If our birds dont cross on the day very very few turn up again.

it was many years ago but he timed the odd one from france.....his theory was that by making them go down and night out they would know when to give up to come again early next morning having rested up for a few hours.

I knew a guy that raced south rd out of france and he trains his birds 30 or 40 miles north and libs them so they have to night out.he makes sure that they have enough light to start for home but have to drop before getting home.

No real point in going to the show on sunday.....most are packing up by 1 oclock....

No sign yet of my BHW here in Dublin.

Ive never had any fantails do they fly about or stay about in the garden.

What birds do you use as droppers..........i had figuritas years ago but they flew to much...anyone use fantails.

Stock cocks on 100% barley ........everything else 50% barley 50% moulting mix Guess which look and handle best. All stock vacinated pmv Racers will be vacinated 4 weeks before racing.

Im looking for some information as to were i can buy some wicker baskets.I need a long but narrow basket just 16 or 17 inches maximum wide x maybe 30 inches...any ideas where i can get some of these...

So Paddy do you not train at all now and just put them in to the race...how far would the first race be and what would your returns be like.

Andy i remember about 10 years ago i had a lovely flashy blue p hen and the guy i was training with told me she used to turn the whole batch back when they tried to leave and told me to leave her at home.she had just 3 or 4 tosses to about 12 miles That weekend we were at 191 miles our longest inland race...i put her straight in and i got her in front of about 20 of the 50 i had sent...

Has anyone on here just sent their youngbirds to their first race without any training at all...if so how far was their first race and what were your returns like...

why did they take photos of a transportor and why not take them as the birds are being libbed...I also heard it brightened up later in the day after the birds had been libbed....They made a huge mistake libbing into a sky with full cloud cover and no sun shining.

I think a lot of changes need to be considered not just the same same every year...look at racepoints that give bad returns every year and dont go there,have more contact with other feds to avoid clashing and think before you lib with bird behind infront and beside you....if a fed libs 60 miles further than you and the birds are going to do 60 mph no point libbing an hour after them because they will run into your lib.put less birds in the baskets and crates...do this for 2 seasons instead of 22 hens and 20 cocks put 18 hens and 14 cocks and see if the returns improve.
