    Belfast fire

Unfortunatly very few ever get caught but hopefully somebody on here knows them and pass on our wishes and maybe offers of help although I understand the basic's fund set up for these cases is an empty pot.
  4. Winter racing would be possible, we get as good weather Oct to April as we get through the summer. BOP's will still kill to feed and survive but won't be killing to feed young or killing for fun when teaching the young to kill! Breeding could take place during the best months rather than breeding in the cold and the birds would be in full feather.

    Belfast fire

Just had this forwarded to me. Anybody else heard about it? 60 pigeons killed in arson attack The charred remains of one of the pigeon sheds Almost 60 birds have been killed in a fire after arsonists targeted a pigeon fanciers' club on the outskirts of Belfast. The blaze in two sheds beside a house in the Twinbrook estate was reported just after 0330 BST on Friday. A family who live next door managed to escape unharmed. The police have said they are treating the incident as arson and are trying to establish a motive for the attack. The birds' owner, Kevin Doherty, said it was lucky no-one was injured. "My neighbours came across banging the doors to get us up because the sheds were blazing," he said. "You couldn't even open the doors because of the flames, the heat was unbelievable. "By the time the fire brigade got here everything was gutted, all gutted." Peter Martin, the chairman of Fortfield Pigeon Club, said the attack had put Mr Doherty's work back five years. "I would say in total £10,000 minimum to put him back to were he was," he said. "But it's not the monetary end, it's the time, the effort and the next five years he's going to have to spend redoing everything that he's done so far." __._,_.___
  7. they like to find a dark secure place to lay and will always go behind a bit of board if there. No point trying to move the egg if you want it, just give them some nest material and let them get on with it!

    Club racing

As Tony said a lot of club members have to pay a weekly race fee wether they send or not but at the end of the day you can only beat the opposition in front of you.

    Club racing

Ask the sec how many flying members there are? The club i currently fly with only has a 1/4 of the members racing yb's than were sending ob's. Some members just don't ever race yb's and others have had bad losses. Use the club to build your team etc give the birds experience ready for the nationals if thats your aim.

  13. All in cracking condition
  14. sickening, stick with it and hope the scum get what they deserve.
  15. whose planning to go to the main even on the 30th?
  16. Agree Willow, everybody needs to work together. A meeting will never happen, a lot of members can't even be bothered to attend club meetings let alone a nitional meeting. Pigeon racing is not recognised as a sport so no support from sporting bodies.
  17. Those that do give up would most likely be those only in it for the money, big studs etc that, in many cases do very little for the sport anyway!
  18. So fine, the RPRA don't make money for a year, so what, there will still be birds sold, transfered etc, memberships will still need to be maintained and while there is no racing the staff could do PR work for the sport in preperation for a relaunch etc. All clubs could run shows etc to keep the interest going, it wouldn't be the end of the world. What members have got to look at are the long term benefits for the sport, there will be no short term gains!
  19. It is the only way Bob as i've also said before but how do you go about it? The unions can stop racing, not issue rings for 2yrs and ask all members to keep the birds confined but how many non members are there who keep birds for pleasure, racers or fancy that won't get the message? A 100% confinement is the only way, the first year, dovecots, ferels etc will get wiped out the 2nd yr wild birds will take a hammering, don't get me wrong i wouldn't want to see any birds dissapear from my garden but the ballance has to be redressed.
  20. The schedule is now out for the Pigeon section at Thame Show on Sept 17th 2009. Anybody interested in showing Racers, Show Racers or Fancy pigeons and wants an entry form please pm me with your e-mail address and i'll forward you a copy. Its a great day out and is the largest one day agricultural in Europe.
  21. I think like a lot of Louella birds they are now to far away from the winners. You would be better obtaining birds from somebody who is genuinly racing them.

    Feral problem

get your latebreds nice and quiet, make sure they know what the food tin is and what they can expect when you call them in, this way you can let them out whenever you like and they will come in when you want them to. They will ignore the ferels unless you give them cause to mix!
  23. You may have just been lucky as there have been many reports of birds becoming sick very soon after being received from Louella! They say they vaccinate all birds prior to shipping but the vaccine can take upto a few weeks to become effective if you read the info sent with the vaccine. The birds therefore are probably becoming sick due to the stress of being weaned, jabbed, stuck in a box and shipped off! But the desease tat manifests itself must be being carried by the bird for it to develop.
  24. "pigeon fanciers" ! We get blamed for everything else!
  25. Well done getting them through it but i'm not sure they will be imune now though! As has been stated some may be carriers so all need to vaccinated if you havn't already done so. Did the Liecester outfit refund your money for the rubbish you were sent and or compensate you for all the trouble you have had? Phil
