Very true, but 3 are granchildren of winners so the first generation that are likely to be raced from them will be great grandchildren, to far from the tree for me.

i don't know who is couriering for them these days, they maybe using multiple couriers.

I suspect there is a combination of things. Firstly why would defra close them down if all oldbirds/stock are vaccinated and youngbirds onsite are healty? The possible cause could be stress, the birds are weaned, jabbed, shoved in boxes, sent of for delivery which in many cases is now taking far longer than it has done in previous years then being put into a strange loft etc. A stressed bird will be more prone to going downhill and this may then allow a desease to get a hold. Always, Always keep any new birds seperate!

better to get tested first otherwise you may create other problems.

I heard DEFRA were investigating but no response yet. Bearing in mind they prob have strong connections with DEFRA through the horses will anything be done if they do find it, i doughbt it!

have they tested positive for canker or are you treating blind?

Parents had an old bird back that had been missing a few days, it was a pied and from a distance they thought it had been shot or hawked, when they caught it every flight had been covered and smodged with a large red stamp, but whoever done it made sure the number was unreadable!

they like crisp boxes and often put them inside the stock nest boxes, the birds are far more settled in a darkened box and when yb's are weaned burn the box and put a clean one in.
