Try this link http://www.snowflakeanimalbedding.co.uk I use the snow flake soft chip, its very clean and doesn't blow around the loft, a very good alternative to easybed kev

last week I had to have a couple of days away from home due to work and while I was away it was one of the coldest periods of the winter so far. No problem though, I prepared to lock up the loft leaving enough food and water for the birds, and leave them to enjoy a couple of days without being disturbed while they are breeding Only one slight little problem I hadn’t noticed the feral pussy cat who sneaked in, and to make matters worse I shut the door and locked it behind me !!!!!!! Fortunately it couldn’t get into the birds due to safety doors, but a few have left the eggs they were sitting on ... I apologise to those who have ordered young birds recently and will be in touch this week when I have calculated how many eggs have been lost, due to being chilled. kev

hi I lined the base with corrugated card, toped with sheets of newspaper, and used the corrugated card on two sides to offer privacy and to stop the poop from YB's being sprayed into the next box

both ends of the boxes open or close, i wanted the ones i'm using with an entry at the front, 5 mins with the jig saw and front door way completed in all the boxes
-
they manage ok the boxes are a decent size, its the photo that makes them look smaller.. or they can pop down to the floor if they want to be a bit more active, i put the boxes in 3 days ago and each one is now taken kev

during a shopping run to wilkinson's i noticed their fold flat storage boxes, £2 each, thought i would try a few as nest boxes, they should be easy to spray clean and at that price they can be binned at the end of summer, or if still in good condition flattened and stored for the winter kev

thanks for the compliment, and you even got an egg for your breakfast kev

ben dont worry i dont any take offence, the birds are in suberb condition when they leave here and thats the main thing. its then upto who ever buys them to use them as stock birds or train them to race... if you want any birds, send me a PM letting me what you are after you never know i may even discount them slightly due to your age, thats unless you earn more than i do kev

well thats a list of mixed comments, any young birds that hatch are inspected and weighed at 7 days 21 days and 42 days to make sure they are developing correctly and gaining weight average weights are 160grams 390grams 400grams at the above ages, average is not the lowest or top weights but a figure gained from all birds bred any birds retained are also weighed at 24/25 weeks.. the average has then increased to 485 grams, birds are flying each day dodging the hawks and getting ample exercise kev

-
One year after the first birds used the loft, its condition and hygiene is working as I planned. the birds poop doesnt cause any problems either to the floor or their boxes, all the surfaces scrub up well
-
thanks for the comments guys when the loft is washed out it takes 10 mins to dry if that, due to all the walls having 3 inch of insulation the temperature inside is never below 3 degrees even on the frostiest of days, and airvents circulate any moist air and it never has any problems with condensation wood is easier to clean and disinfect with a smooth painted finish than with a rough natural surface. obviously the photos did not intentionally include a pigeon, but it could always be colour fed or something, to be seen more easy kev
