eye problem
The White Rapido Man replied to The White Rapido Man's topic in Help - What's wrong with my bird?
the front of my loft is open all day to dual sliding mesh doors...............the stock loft itself goes straight through into an open 8 x 8 x 8 ft flight...so ventilation is not a problem..... must admitt that the eye looks marginally better today......I wonder if he'd got pecked in the grid, by another cock.... -
where is the cheapest place was to buy canker tablets / treatment from please???? cheers TWRM

One of my best 05 stock cocks that is currently moutling heavily around the neck & seems to have developed a problem with the cere around one eye...Its looks rather swollen, watery, and orange in colour.(as aposed to white) The eye is bright and the bird is in good health overall.......I've never come across this before... Any ideas anyone on perhaps the cause ...............and treatment........ I'll pop up a photo later thanks TWRM

a gentleman for Tonypandy.............but I'm not prepared to broadcast his name on an open forum........ A very nice gentleman aswell may I ad -
As mentioned in a previous post I got a straggler in from Wales which I was gifted after it flew 300 hundred miles west to east to my loft (after being tossed at swansea by firend ) after only being in there for only 2 days!!...It turns out that after discussions with the owner, (and papers) that this particular birds parents were out of Toey the famous Tony Mardon Van Reet that were bought for £7,000. After doing a bit of homework this was validated. I have a very good friend who Bred 'The Walsh cock'...(another famous T M - Van Reet)..now he has offered to pair this welsh bird to a direct sister of 'The Walsh cock' which and let me have a pair of YB's to race with, as long as he can have a pair also.. I am very excited about my first years racing and the prospect of having 2 birds out of very good pedigrees........(allegedly) Sorry to waffle on but the above leads to my question.....does anyone have info on either of these 2 birds. 'The Walsh Cock' & 'Toey' would be very much appreciated. ps...heres a picture of the Welsh bird ..incase your interested!!!

nicely put!!!!..................in reality though I think you would really struggle to get a birds of prey to entr into one any ;)way

a larsen trap is a cage trap wich is commonly used by game keepers to trap corvids..ie crows magpies and jackdaws etc which themsleves are a threat to small pheasant poults..eggs..and so on.. the above mentioned birds are classed as vermin under the wildlife and country act and can be captured legally..................catching birds of prey however is not...and can incurr and heavy fine and indeed imprisonment.......... I would be aslo quite carefull how you respond to this on a public open forum also Some deterants do work.......decoy hawks......cd's dangllng in the wind from trees etc. Nothing however beats good training.....get your pigeons out for excercise...and back in on command for feed.....if you can get them used to coming in to a whistle or tin rattle then although it will not illiminate all hawk attacks.... butit will help... free flying birds are prone to attack.....not saying this is the case here....just giving a few tips!

I have tried and tried to settle stock over the yeasr and have lost far more thatn I have settled!!!!!!!!! once they get a couple of years on them it gets harder....I can settle yearlings once they have bred their fiorst round but even then there are no firm rules..... if shes still about thats good news.... I lost a logun hen from manchester 2 00m ile to the west.....it got back to the owner and I got it back.....it escaped again and I was called saying it had returned to manx......2 days later it flew back to me....strange!............ Hi Ted.................as you know I've bred whites for years and prodimently they throw bull eyed......I have had a couple with 'lighter' bull eye, but never with a full yellow or red. I have an outstanding 05 cock bird out of Parkside Superman who has a purple ring around the pupil......you can just see whats happening with a bull eye under a good light and eye piece ......ps......how are the german beauty homers coming on......had young uns yet???? all the best Paul

no problem.......it going to be tomorrow now at the ealiest young man. Ta Paul

YB and OB sharing the same room?
The White Rapido Man replied to debonair.pidjin's topic in Racing Pigeons
As I dont currently race but keep racing pigeon I keep mine together...............this is fine as long as you are not overcrowded and the young uns are not bullied from feeder and water hopper. Got to keep an close eye on whos doing what in the loft, as you can get an old cock that will harrass a young hen...................also a jealous cock with no hen will and can peck nestlings to death..... -
Sam................I have a spare 07 Rapido Bushaert Hen ( blue bar pied) if you are still interested..... I will try and bang up a photo later pm me for more details

Selby isn't too far away from me and I would certainly be interested. Having never shown pigeons before I think it would be good to have an open show. In terms of entrance fees etc...what would you envisage it to be?

I struggled to ID the one that swooped on one of my B-Rollers and took it in mid flight....it was the same ...a very sandy brown colour.. but slightly bigger than a sparrow hawk. It hit like a peregrine but wasn't one!.....I believe the ones on our local steel works are captive bred lanner falcons (gone wild) crossed with native peregrines or goss goss hawks..... ...............the lanner x peregrine would be a deadly arial assasin...... but hey just are too quick to get a photo of.........
-
only had a couple of hawk attacks in the last couple of years had my best white hen hit it managed to get home with horrific injuries between its shoulders.......poor thing died a few day later...............also had one taken in mid flight...... We have loads around us...sparrow hawks, goss hawks......and some very strange hybrids that live on the local steel works.....................
