  1. you never know!!!!!!..............if you bought you stock for the Kent / Ipswich area.....then quite possibly so!!!
  2. Thanks.....I must admitt that he is a cracker.....very nice shape and form, infact I bought him in as a latebred in o5, and he's a Rapido decending from Superman. I manage to settle him and train him with the others even though I dont race...hes the first back every time by a long chalk........but he hates me...........He's nicked named the 'The Growler' as he starts as soon as he sees me!!!!....his son is in the picture below him.......the 'Growler 2' who seems to have inherrited his dislike of me!!!! I am in the process of getting some stock together to race with next year (my first years racing), but need a new hen as his got nailed by a goss halk about 3 months ago.
  3. very interesting........................ and validate the fact that pigeon have 'preliferal thinking' (think in 3 dimentions similar to us)...as proven in a recent scientific study.
  4. just been testing out my new camera.............and thought I'd post a couple of photos of some of my Rapido's........long with little lads Roller that I am not allowed to get rid of .........he is only 3 and a half.....and he loves this little bird. When any visiters come, he marches them down to the loft to proudly shows them his little bod!!!
  5. if so...............do you want to be friends?
  6. just test out me new camera!!! heres a photo of the welsh cock that flew 200 miles back to me acoss country, after only beibg in mny loft for 2 days!!
  7. those are excelent results.......good on you
  8. what do you think to this!!! I got a stray in on Sunday morning (in S*expletive removed*horpe)....the birds was I.D'ed and the owner contacted. He was based in Tonypaddy - Wales.(some 200 miles to the west of me) As luck would have it, I hd some friends going to Swansea on Tuesday.....so I rested, fed, and watered the bird...and had it tossed oustide Swansea on Tuesday lunchtime... I called the owner who was expecting the bird. The following morning I go down to the loft with the feed tray......and this bird drops out of the sky and lands on it whilst in my hand.........................low and behold it was the Welsh bird.....who have come 200 miles accross unfamiliar country, and had come back to me........ I called the owner who was as amazed as me.........he told me the bird was a very well bred Stav Van Reet, and he said if I wanted it he will send me all of the pedigree papers etc.......... after that...............it obviously likes me!!!!......so I'll have it transfered and give it a good home......................... I thought that that was amazing...................................fascinating are they!!! Has anyone else got some strange stories like this to tell????
  9. Hi there..............in terms of breeding YB's to fly, you are too late for this season. Personally I try to calcuate my breeding to co-inside with when the new RRPA rings come out in January....... I pair up mid December, and have them hatching through at the start of January to rung within the first week...Alot of racing pigeion men wait until valentines day...personally I like to get a head start and get the YBs strong and fit..... Keep the cocks and hen split up...............this will give them the drive to get going........as mentioned use wheat oil or feed more wheat, as this 'ups' the sex drive...............I selectivelty pair and when the time is right I'll pen teh pair up for a week in a next box.........this is usually enough (sometimes tey dont take to one another).....usually 10-14 days after the eggs are laid...........21 days to hatching and another 7 days for ringing
  10. Presuambly these birds have the cards to prove it!!!!!!
  11. sounds like I could be onto a good thing there.......... thanks for your help chaps
  12. I have been offered a pair of Andrews & Jackson birds. I am not currently racing but I'm looking to start next year, I wonder if anyone has ever heard of these, and indeed what lines they comprise of. I have kept racing pigeons for about 17 years although I've never raced, and I'm starting to obtain some decent racing stock in the hope of breeding a YB team for next year...... thanks
  13. If you live out in the country......you cna use a samll jill to flush them out for the gun......here's a picutre of 2 big mothers I shot that were bolted from under my shed nots so long ago!!!!
  14. Mars bar on a break back trap under a ridge tile should the trick... Rats always scurry along wall sides etc so trap placemet is important...you should be able to see a run which ratty uses....and place the trap there. I noticed form a previous picture of you birds that you have quite a few gaps in your loft panels etc......block these up...to stop ratty getting in and worrying them.... I have had YB's killed by rats................
  15. if you just want to keep a few tumblers for now, then you dont need anything too fancy.... If it was me I would convert a 6 x 8 garden shed, to the side you could make a flight with v-perches in...internally you could have a range of box / nest perches, and v-perches.......and just let nature take its course. I would line the shed internally with marine ply so that it would be warmer in the winter...an if you want you could put a light in teh main loft for theose darker afternoons A shed of this size with flight could easily accomodate 6 - 7 pairs
  16. where I come from...if you get stragglers in the owners dont usually want them back as if they cant find their way home...they simlpy are no good......... Alot of serious racing men I know will get in touch...and if uncollected, they are usually put in the wheely bin................. Personally I dont race....so all my birds a re welome back if they 'go walkabout'
  17. Why not try the local library? Whe I first started with pigeons amny moons ago, there was a very basic book...Pigeons for beginners...I cant remeebr who wrote it. It had loft designes and basically everything you neeed to know to get you going. Good look........................and welcome to the fancy!!!
  18. and this one please WHU 2007 h11586 thanks
  19. any picturtes of dam and sire??............... I have a cousin who is looking for a terrier for ground work cheers
  20. pure garlic oil......a couple of drops in the water a week....or a garlic clove (peeled) does them the world of good......and also helps get throught reh moult alot quicker
  21. ditto to all the above.... there are always hecklers.....I have encountered them myself on here..... I think one can only put it down to jelousy.......... I love looking at birds for sale....................and as I mentioned before,.....everything has a price....asnd if buyer and seller are happy..then whats is the big deal.....................this is a basic principle economics.... :-/ .....................good on you stuart for making the odd quid......and indeed contributing to the site...........top bloke!
  22. Did they do anything for you???
  23. best of look with them................... when you say you have had no luck, what do you mean?........have they hatched?...perhaps been spread legged?.......or just died?.... The reason I ask is because they are a big bird...perhaps they are sitting the nest 'too tightly'.............I have had this with large Belguim birds.......and using a floater to hatch the eggs under is probably a better idea........... the problem comes when trying to co-inside the floaters to lay at the same time!!!
  24. a knock or bang.........dehydration..........heat exhaustion will cause wings to drop... I hope its not the big P......but its better to edge on the side of caution and get checked out properly........ I would take all teh advise above as 'sound'.... everything turns out ok
  25. not that easy nor text book I wouldnt think..............but as I mentioend before ........very interesting!!
