...............................I never did find out what this was all about ...can someone please advise.... Am I to assume that someone on here has fallen foul???
-
Alot of racing men discregard whites as hawk bait and weak... My pure white rapidos have been raced by others and scored well well over the years...... I am going to race them next year........I also have 6 pairs of the best bred Loguns in the UK (bold statement I know....but true)...cant wait to supplement my YB race team with a few whites. good on you anyway!

I am getting geared up for my first season racing next year......... Ordinarily I just join the midland national and buy the rings that way albiet more expensive, but as I will be joining a local club, I will need to be accepted into the club via my letter. My concern would be that I would not be able to bcome an affiliated member until after the clubs AGM mid - end January. I want to pair in Dec for the new 08 rings beginning of January which naturally leaves me with a shortfall.... Sorry..............may sound trivial but what is the usual proccedure in theses instance???? I certianly dont want to have to pay to join the mid nat: and then the local club?? thanks TWRM

I saw someone advertising TYLAN. What is this please and what is it used for? thanks TWRM

{IT DOES SOUND HARSH BUT THEIR TO PROTECT BEGINNERS RATHER THAN ESTABLISHED MEMBERS} ..............fair point
-
sounds harsh...................lets keep it simple for the everyone just post a generic warning at the beginning of every for sale post, advising all members to be vigilant in their approach to buying birds..give them pointers of what they should be looking for, ie names address clubs.......then let them assume responsibilty thereonafter. Post an advisory notice.......and if they still fall foul...............then I'd be inclined to say tuff - tiddies Theres no accounting for common sence

dosnt matter if cost £40k or £4..............if your loft amnagement isn't right....then it means nothing..... In the materalistic world in which we live in, folk are easily impressed by names....studs etc.....and think that they are not going to be competative unless they spend thousands of pounds.........Yes these birds are class....but 'high cost' dosn't automatically spell success. Enjoy your birds...race them......get to know them......pick out the good points...and the bad.....then..when you have a good rounded knowledge about what you want out of a pigeon......then do your homework on the specific breeds.... If you are a 'complete' novice.........then one pigeon is as good as another........get friendly with a decent fancier who will breed you a round of YB/s...and see how you get on......keep the good uns...bin the bad.......and off you go

great stuff..thanks

Personally I would think pairing nest mates would be too close................I havent done it but have paired daughter back to father and son to mother which some believe is one o the best pairings you can have for strengthening bloodlines.........

thanks all.................. Tony - useful link - thanks alot TWRM

do you fly Hermans??.........................I am guessing you load prior to race day on this as they are carbs to fuel to long races???? on that basis do you limit the maize intake during your trianing programmes......then bang them 100% to them that extra energy??? I apologise if this thread is evolving from the original question..........
-
thanks Spencer........................ could I ask why you don't feed maize if you feel it is good for pigeons? ( please dont think I'm trying to be nosey.....I'm just interested in your views...) I am not a novice pigeon fancier..........infact I bred YB teams 2 last years but circumstancers ment I couldn't race... I do talk to many racing men, and extract the info / tips I feel is relevant to me....I agree....there are so many varying differences of opinions it woudl be foolish to take on board them all......and folk will tell you anything...especially if they see you as a potential threat to their success!!!....... Nuitrition for racing is something I am trying to studying at the moment......and I need as much imput as I can get!!!! please note that I dont want this to turn nto a debate.......and want the varying veiws only thanks

If you are genuine.....then you have nothing to hide....... Personally, I think that the buyer should assume responsibility for validating who they are buying from.............I know I do This is a public forum and freely showing your personal details, loft no-s to all and sundry could leave the doors open for all amnner of Mr. Meaners............I can think of a few already! Perhaps the info should be generically supplied 'upon request'
-
........................thanks for that I did wonder
-
I have acquired some Karel Herman stock to breed my YB team next year, and have heard from a couple of fanciers that feeding this strain maize sends them hypo.....and difficult to control. .....can anyone either validate or dispell this theory???? ......next year will be my first seasons racing...so unfortunately I am reliant on what info fellow fanciers 'choose' to give me!!!!!! .....the last thing I want though is to be 'sold down the river' cheers

thanks chaps

heres the photo I was going to post.................... -
its definately ratty mate.............he will readily take young chicks.....and now its getting colder they set up home where they can access food readily.. You need to be careful using the pellets...if he eats it under the loft and comes into the the loft, he can easily transitt poison into your loft through faeces or whatever which could be fatal to the birds...not only that, in some feed there are ingredients that actually counteract the effects of the poison!!....... best solution would be to buy a cage trap that will catch him alive....cover the trap and bait it will the smelliest thing you can find....tuna is usually a killer.......put the trap along the side a the wall as ratty skulks in the corners..rarely crossing into the open.....it may take a day or so as theya re very nevous creatures..but once he get used to it.......he'll be in.....transfer the rat in the trap to the waiting water butt.......& bobs ye uncle.... oh......I am a pest cntroller for a couple of shooting sydicates so I know what I;m on with....there are other methods I can discuss with you if this fails...but all in all this is by far the safest method for the birds
