Massive outbreak of YB Sickness on the continent
thunderboult replied to PigeonDesigner's topic in Notice Board
probaly a result of years of antibiotic abuse and no natural immunity left to fight off the diseases.that's my thoughts on it. -
can you tell we were all these ailments hide ? the reason i ask is had my birds tested last year and they could'nt find cocci, canker or respatory disease. are you saying that pigeons need to be treated before every race to show their true potential?. is it true that when you give antibiotics it makes the pigeon produce more white bloodcells thus giving it a boost.? this is what i've been told.

are they using it because they think the bird as respiratory problems or are they giving it for the boost giving antibiotics gives. i've seen it myself, some dvd's i got show top belgium fancier's giving antibiotics before a big race. so when i first started i got suckered into believing this and tried it, the first time i tried it i gave a worming tablet to this particular bird and was waiting in the house for the birds to come home when this particular bird landed on the roof, i my excitment i ran out the loft with my dogs following and frightened him off, i later found out he would have topped the fed easy, so i thought there's something in this . later that season i tried the same thing with the same cock and he came again but this time i got him in and he won. thinking that was the answer, i tried it with some more going to a channel race . this time i gave a spartrix tablet(as i'd seen the belgiums doing) but the birds ended up being held over for 3or4 days and i had a terrible race being hours behind everyone(who all had an easy race, with near 100% returns) and lost most of the birds i sent, i think not being able to give probiotics after the treatment gave them no resistence and resulted in the poor race i had. i decide there and then to never go that way again. thankfully i realised the outcome soon enough before any problems started.

hi jamie, i would'nt recommend jet washing inside the loft as it will create a damp enviroment, without seeing what you mean . you want the inside of your loft bone dry. -
lol ok i'll lay off, while i was asking is , if it's 4/5 or more, would it harm to spread them about a bit, afterall it would be in your guys best interest if more fancier's could enter.
-
just give us a rough idea 5/6 ?
-
how many national marking stations are there within the wnr fed?
-
fair play, your going all out to help fancier's in the north and west have a go .
-
so if i wanted to join would i have to take my birds to a club within the wnr fed to mark them ?
-
hi strapper, i remember reading when the discussions were going on with mr maidment, one of the reasons wnr fed were not happy because they're wagon was'nt being used for every national, yet tom says now somebody else's is taking them .
-
i thought part of the reason for going your own way, was because you had bought a new geraldy trailor and wanted to use it.
-
hi old yellow, there's already a few nationals in wales open to everybody.

hi, i would like to know what percentage of fancier's who use antibiotics on a regular basis(every year/month/week) get any form of sickness in they're birds . i don't use antibiotics and have never had any yb sickness or any other kind of sickness which i think is because of the birds higher natural immunity. what are your views on this?.
-
i've always raced yb's like this and have done reasonably well, although when they start moulting bad it's harder to compete with the darky's.(it's is for me, but i don't push em hard to win as yb's)
-
hi lewanbob, i believe the problems you are having(ybs) is a result of using antibiotics, if you think that treating for worms, canker and cocci is nothing in your fancies i hate to think how much your are giving your racers. i'm not saying that in a nasty way just trying to be helpful. i had a disscusion with a club member 2yrs ago about giving antibiotoics on a regular basis and he's had ybs last season also plus another member had some other serious problems with his old birds that spread to his young and killed about 40 birds. i blame some of the films were these continentals are showing them treat before the races to give the birds a boost, with no thought to future complications in regards to immunity. i've seen the rewards for treating before hand but also the downfalls. i started in 2004 and have had birds from here, there and everywere, i've not treated them and had no problems on the whole(had the odd yb look a bit scrawny and got rid of) last year i got them tested and was expecting to see things like canker, bit of respartory and what av you, but when the results came back the only thing was worms in some.(i did then treat for that) but there was no diffrence in the general performance of the birds after i treated(they had won before and they won afterwards) so i don't think i really needed to treat and i won't go on treating in the future. the products i use are gem, colostrum powder from gem, garlic oil+garlic cloves, ultimate, aqua guard,b12 and honey. although not at the same time lol.

as there's no bids for lots 1+10 i'll combine these 2 and let go as a pair , the cock has flown the southwest one loft race series finishing 15th open in the final. these are not blow home races, racing from the east to west down into plymouth, wind normally on the nose. the hen's flown the europa one loft series scotland to cardiff, although she was late from the main race, she picked up 28th+54th in the hot spot races and a full brother to her was 14th open europa classic the year before. maybe hatching out on the 1st of april did'nt give her enough time to reach her potiential. another the same way bred was at the final of the europa classic this year(and was fancied) but we all know what happened there. i'm sure whoever gets these will not be dissapointed as both birds are nice in the hand. start at 25 quid like the other's .
