    Injuries

Been quite lucky training so far. Dropped 2 and only one other came back with some secondaries missing but not enough to put it off the road. Like yersel Mike i release small groups about 5/10 mins apart and i'm positive it helps re losses and injuries. Atb for the rest of the year. Cheers.
  3. Happy birthday Andy and Stevie, hope you have a great day with loadsa surprises :-) :-)
  4. Aye George never missed a beat, class is permanent right enough.
  5. Great start Tam, still gettin them when the wind's in their face.
  6. Credit where due after that start i thought it was excellent, apart fae the wee wrestlin match way the Torch it was a very good watch. Ps. Did you text FIRST to 70333, a did.
  7. Ave seen them taking it aff sea birds way washin up liquid Steven, worth a try mate. Still canny believe the state its in AND it made it hame.
  8. No quite Rab, 700 units will be available after the games. 400 will be allocated to locals as new hooses and 300 will be sold privately. Al bet ye London tae an Orange the 400 are run doon in 5 years and those who buy will want oot as soon as tae get away fae the wasters. Of all the things they could have shown in the area they picked the Worst examples of our country and made them the focal point of the program. The only thing worse that i've seen lately was that first 10 mins of the opening ceremony, naebody dressed right, singin songs that irnae songs and 2 guys kissin and runnin away hawdin hawns expletive remove , that disane represent the Glasgow or Scottish community in the least. Can only imagine an Englishman choreographed it. Nae wunner they kept it under wraps til the night.
  9. expletive remove Steven, ave never in my life seen anything so bad making it home, well done tae the wee doo for doing it but its bound to be mentally scarred whatever its been through.
  10. Small price to pay for having such a high profile event in our LITTLE country Rab. Of cousre Scots give attitude to anything that upsets the dailly routine and invent things that they were gonna do just to lend weight to the arguement. The recent tv programs on Dalmarnock and its regeneration just shows alkies and wasters on it greetin that their place and community are gone forever, as if it was worth greetin aboot. The place was derelict with little or no opportunities for kids growing up there but the jakies, junkies and just plain twisted have been greetin for 4 years instead of seeing the improvements in the place and welcoming it!! jmo
  11. Looking forward to the Opening Ceremony tonight and the start of the games tomorrow. Miraculously the sun is out to welcome the athletes to Scotland. Think we could have the best ever medals total with it being a Home Games for our boys and girls, here's hoping anyway.
  12. Best o luck to those of you racing today, gonna be a tough race in that heat.
  13. Ye may well be right Steven though i had many more of similar/same blood lines that never made the grade. Its a tricky one for Walter to decide but at some stage the birds will have to be tested and bein able to predict the wans that Will make it is well nye impossible and there lies the problem we all face a suppose.
  14. Good pics Archie, disnae look like they're carrying ETS or Rubber rings so most likely local. jmo.
  15. Great news Babybird, pass on my regards and wishes for a quick recovery plz.
  16. Very difficult to assess them after Saturday's strange/erratic race, my losses are about average by all accounts so the jury is still out on them. About Saturday's race.........a friend was driving along the M8 around the time our birds would have been en route home, he seen 5 birds trying to land on the M8 itself and could only assume the shimmer from the heat on the tar looked like water to them because they were determined to land, he didn't see but if they did land they are gone for sure. Something else to note was when the water was put into the drinkers on the baskets only about half a dozen baskets from the 160 on board had doos drinking from them in the first few minutes after the water was poured, if that had been old birds 160 baskets would have had birds drinking from them immediately.
  17. IMO Walter a lot depends on your aspirations in the results. If you like the racing but not fussed where you finish so long as they home safely then by all means save them until the yearling stage. If however you want to build a team of winning pigeons and you don't race them as youngsters, it is inevitable that you will breed from them before racing, only to find the parents have gone down in the first couple of races as yearlings, in turn you will have doos bred from birds not up to winning and the youngsters you breed from them will undoubtedly go down quickly when they reach the yearling stage and most likely you will have bred from them too, this cycle of events will repeat year on year until you lose all the birds (or the vast majority) early in the season leaving you with nothing to compete with come the longer races. It is unlikely you would ever have a good crop of 2yr old birds at your disposal for channel racing (if that's your preference). Whilst good blood is a distinct advantage in any loft it is no guarantee of success unless you test them. I have done it myself, putting "good" doos away until the following season only to discover they weren't as good as i would have liked to think they were!!! and i'm looking at maybe 4 youngsters i bred from these "good" doos knowing they will most likely go down the first real test they face. For whatever reason i find latebred birds are better when kept untrained or raced in the year of their birth than early bred Yb's, the best 2 pigeons i have ever had in my lofts were both latebred's and both related, G/sire and G/dgtr. Maybe it has something to do with them having been bred in the summer months but i'm not sure, i can only say this is my findings in my loft. atvb John.
