  1. Its not something you actually do with them George, its more a case of getting your doos through the moult as well as possible and ready to breed come December/January. Peace and quiet are the best things for them when they are heavy in the moult, with no stress put on them. Feed them as much as they will eat during the moult, then a month or so before you pair up start getting the hens in a good fit condition to lay and rear yb's. I personally don't bother the Ck's as they will lose excess fat reserves when they pair up and start driving their hens, and fighting with everything that moves when their libido is sky high!! I'm sure there will be differing opinions on how to handle your doos during winter but keeping things simple is the best method for me.
  2. Whether we like it or not, duplication is inevitable everywhere in this game. There will in the next 10/15 yrs be a dramatic drop in the number of fanciers all over the country, and unless you want to be sending your doos in the back of a Fiesta van to the races, organisations will have to agree race programs and travel together. Now whether they would wish to pool against each other or not is a different matter, but we'll ALL have to face the fact that it will be far too expensive to transport doos in tiny convoys and we will have to go together, to the extent every race you enter will be what we recognise as a National race today. I was going to add JMO but that's not appropriate, its not a matter of opinion its inevitable!!
  3. I don;t see what difference it would make to the winner of the Gold Cup if a Fed doo done a better velocity, the fancier who races in the national will be remembered for ever and the Fed doo that beat it wouldn't be known to be forgotten!
  4. You're only an hour away from Fleetwood, you could have it in your loft without help by tomorrow afternoon, if you don't drive surely a friend or neighbour will take you for the price of the fuel, about £12 would cover it.??
  5. With the difficulty fanciers have keeping birds to 2/3/4yrs old these days it is inevitable some of the races will have to be reviewed. Personally i think this will end up affecting the channel races more than the inland races as fanciers in general are loathed to send yearlings across the water. I don't have any particular preferences as to the program other than what has been posted already, keep Gold Cup and Longest race, for the other races on the current program, the birds in fanciers lofts will eventually decide their fate. What i do think is there are too many races for fanciers to compete in them all. This devalues the Average winners as there are very few who participate in all the SNFC races at the moment, and there will be fewer still in the near future, due to the heavy losses at club and Fed level of birds who would end up going across the water. No matter what program is voted in, i for one will compete in as many as my loft allows me to and will continue to do so for as long as possible, but the losses will catch up with all of us, and competing in every Channel race will be a task even for the most established lofts. JMO's
  6. Do you have pedigrees for the parents??
  7. Get yourself onto G. Rankin and Son from Larkhall, they have been winning from the distance for YEARS, Gareth Rankin is on this site. Pm him and i'm sure he will look after you ;)
  8. Don't know why they want another calamitous goalie, the guy Zaluska? who came from Dundee is a cracking keeper and doesn't seem to make the howlers Boruc did or James is known for! jmo.
  9. Your takin the p*ss now
  10.
  11. I'm no even going out in the weather we are getting today so i'll no be training the doos either. Took a week off work to get them ready too and its a wasted week :(
  12. Mind when you go round to the building site to get them in the middle of the night, make sure there isnae any guard dogs about :D :D
  13. I would think about 60 will cover it, maybe 55 depending on whether you have an overhang front and back.
  14. Nodody will tell you 'til you tell the Protein secret
  15. Bleedin terrible again in Lanakshire, rain hasn't stopped in 48hrs and canny see more than a mile or so. Forecaster said its to brighten up this afternoon, but i don't believe him :(

  17. Sounds like a rodent of some description is doing it, but if there are no droppings there are no mice. I would hazard a guess at a squirrel, they can get into just about anywhere that takes their fancy
  18. Think that is what we get tomorrow too, just hope its good enough to train the doos
  19. Don't know about the rest of the country but its bleedin lashing with rain in Lanarkshire, MONSOON weather with the water turning the roads into rivers, Glad i live at the top of a hill and no the bottom  Got to go and verify a doo at 4pm too, and i don't fancy driving in it, but what can you do, just got to get on with it i guess.

  23. I have been training 47 since last week. Started them at 12mls in 2 groups of 20 odds, got them to 25mls & 40mls still in 2 groups then i put them on the Newmains training van Yesterday, and dropped 1 out of it, had my eye on it too as a pooler this week, Typical!!! They won't get tossed today due to weather so i'll need to get them tomorrow. Twice if weather permitting. :( I have just stocked up on their feeding for the program ahead. Even mix of V/L Sport Extra, Super YB and economy mix, they get this in varying amounts morning and night and i give them Red Band, Kibbled Peanuts, Sunflower Hearts and hormoform, equal measure of 1st three and half that measure of Hormoform. They get mixed minerals, grits, pick bloc's and stones with some small seeds in the mix. liberally at night. I like mixing just about every thing they get
  24. Cheers Davy, think i remember that happening. We are well short of it at Otterburn so hopefully it'll no affect us
