  1. Did you see it this week again Andy?
  2. IN was asked about the Terror eyes in my garden recently. They are facing out from my garden in all directions and i think it has made a difference. Lost 4 doos in 2 years before putting them up and haven't had a strike in the garden since. Simple to make with tile Batons and Cd's.
  3. Getting near to finishing it off, gonna continue the fence onto the sides of the loft as the doos are still getting on top.
  4. Great wee read Chris, might be an idea for us all to tell how we got involved. Hope you have a good 2012 with few losses. Atvb John.
  5. Anyone can use the van.
  6. Always thought 28 for a 6'x6' section, but 12'x6' with aviaries attached i would have to think you could keep 60+. jmo
  7. Got to fancy both Manchester teams to win. Both claim to be taking it seriously, if so should still be in the competition in the latter stages.
  8. Very sad news Brian, RIP Marshall, my thoughts and prayers for all the family.
  9. No one has asked to be transported with us, YET!
  10. The problem the owners of Man City etc etc etc have is they have so much money they are extremely unlikely to go bust and would be held liable world wide for any outstanding debts the club incurs whilst they still own it, whether they liked it or not!! So Sorry No More Money widnae wash JAM
  11. That only referred to the 2 races with the SNFC Frank, there was no mention of transporting with any other organisation at the meeting, i certainly can't remember it, so no vote was taken regarding other organisations being taken with us. We can afford to go alone there is no doubt about that, probably could go alone year on year with the bank balance we have but i can't see a situation arising where the members would vote for this. As shocked as i am with the outcome of some votes i canny see them voting the money away when it is possible to reduce our costs by accommodating other Feds to the longer races.
  12. There is no truth in that Frank, certainly not the information i have been given regarding transporting birds. I must also point out that there was Never a vote to go alone, as stated earlier the only vote was whether we convoyed with the SNFC for our Coast race and Channel race which as you know was defeated. It would be negligent of the members to vote to Go Alone for the entire season, convoying other organisations birds with Us convoying makes financial sense for Lanarkshire Fed, in the current financial climate you know well every pound is a prisoner and every pound saved must be advantageous to us in the short and long term. ATB Mate.

    Paired Up

Just got my lot paired up on Sunday, 3 weeks later than planned but i'll no lose sleep over it. Though this next 2 weeks in the loft are the most frustrating of the year for me. Lots of.......... and Then its all from then until racing starts. After that its either or
  14. I came across this when browsing, might interest some of you The RSPB and other organisations have been providing nesting ledges and boxes to help peregrines re-colonise their former ranges in the south and east of England. Continuing vigilance is needed to keep in check the illegal killing of peregrines by gamekeepers and pigeon fanciers, and the robbing of nests for eggs and chicks by egg collectors and falconers. The peregrine is included on the Amber List of UK birds of conservation concern. Work it out.
  15. The Scottish Homing Union had a study of sorts, members were asked to send pics of injured birds that were Obviously attacked by BOP on their own doorsteps or the ones lucky enough to survive an attack whilst racing/training. The response was at best tepid. IF there was an organised event say, to promote the fancy and explain the effects that BOP has on ALL other species of birds i would be first to buy a ticket and encourage everyone i know to attend too. imo the petitions sent to politicians and other individuals who have had OUR interests at heart were enough to change views or at least start a constructive discussion between interested parties but it hasn't happened. We had fanciers licensed to catch Sparrow Hawks for repatriation elsewhere, the applications for the license were relevantly few and the success of the study was undermined by this. More fanciers (including myself) would have taken up the offer if they were able to dispose of the BOP's trapped, but not to let them off in another area just to attack fellow fanciers flocks. So forgive my apathy for yet another petition but as you can see it has proven futile up to now despite our best efforts and YEARS of hard work by the SHU Secretary Linda Brooks. ATB with your efforts on this but please remember to enjoy your birds too and don't let the certain disappointments and obstacles drive you out of the sport. Cheers John.
  16. I am as entitled to my opinion as anyone and expressed it above, this despite having put my name to MANY petitions through the SHU and RPRA, on the subject of the bop problems we have. We, the SHU, have had politicians on our side addressing our concerns in parliament as well, all to no avail.
  17. I'll no be getting the wee man done anyway. It'll no stop him escaping at every turn or stop him being aggressive towards other dogs so he can keep his knackers, for the meantime at least!!
  18. Beg to differ Preston, the difference between them and us is about £90,000,000 and a legal department who's livelihoods depend on the RSPB and their protected species. We lose every year because in the general public's eyes our birds mean nothing but trouble and mess in the shopping centres, they don't differentiate between wild/feral pigeons and racers. Our sport and the pleasure we get from it means nothing to them either. Put a peregrines nest 5 miles up a dirt track and literally hundreds of people will trek to see it every week of the year, because it has a Glamorous image in the eyes of the general public. Our problem is that image, until the public's perception of fanciers and racing pigeons changes no amount of signatures will change the law of the land. Not in the Majority of our lifetime's anyway. jmo.
  19. How is your wee dug getting on since his op George, any improvement in his behaviour?

Spent 7 summers on the McLukie farm at Waterloo from the age of 6/7, my father was great friends with Bob who let him shoot on his ground and secure his gun licence. When Bob passed away in the early 70's all our family went to the farm for lambing and getting the hay in every year until Alice passed away around 1980. Many Many happy memories of the time i spent on the farm. eg, Was great when you were the one who found where in the barn the Hens eggs were being laid since the hay had been gathered in. Or the one who caught the lamb that had escaped from the fields, simple but very happy memories.
  22. I'm strictly a Man Utd man BUT everything that Kenny Dalgliesh said to the Sky reporter was true, it was just the way he said it that went against him.
  23. Spot on, you understood it perfectly
  24. Personally i feel honoured when asked to donate to a charity sale and knowing someone somewhere is going to benefit from it makes the rearing of them less of a burden. The price they fetch is neither hear nor there to me either, though its great if your donation makes £££££££ for the charity concerned, small amounts raised for some lots are what makes up the majority of the eventual donation. As for those critical of the amount of sales being run for charities, i can only say that when my own recent sale was held on Basics the kindness of the members donating to it was overwhelming, i only asked for a SINGLE donation and the rest were given voluntarily. The one member i asked simply didn't want to push himself forward to donate, but was keen to do so. (i was told this by a fellow PB member) This would indicate to me that the Pigeon Basics members are supporting the various good causes because it means a lot to us to help others out, whilst not everyone can donate to, or buy from every auction, we collectively can support many good causes over the year without it adversely affecting the members race teams or Pigeon Basics itself. JMHO.
