Sitting tonight looking at yearlings and two year old cocks that have flown well for me this season Had books out for each year since they were born and what races they competed in ,made interesting reading Four yearling I got out of littlehampton this year as youngsters they only had Shap 65 mls and sedburgh 78 mls through the hills then stopped ,nearly all races this year Two year old cock I got back hawked from Ancenis, had scored at Buckingham and littlehampton and flown nearly every race ,yet as a youngster he had one Shap and returned under his own steam 5 weeks late as a yearling put him in at Lymm 144 mls he came next day then he was first bird from Woolaston 220 mls then 2nd Cheltenham 240 mls At what point does a pigeon that makes mistakes become a good one ,and obviously youngsters don't need the guts flown out off them My own feelings are its the system you adapt them to that makes them ,and the breeding Thoughts ?

Just my own thoughts don't think you can be taught good or bad ,you have either got the knack or you haven't You have to learn yourself what bird suits your hand Last year got pick of two youngsters from a friend he had twelve in the basket One was my pooler at littlehampton this year she had already been first to loft twice sadly dropped her but that did not make her bad she just got unlucky as she was exceptional, still got the other every bit as good Also last year got pick of ten in basket from friends ,young cheq stood out 54 open littlehampton Got choice from Ralston and picked blue hen from basket It turned out to be from his gold cup winner So there you go lads give me the pick of yours and I'll leave with your best lol

Very good honest post Colin About three years ago had a pigeon enter the loft bringing with it paramyxovirus This immediately spread to late bred youngsters that were not vaccinated Having experienced that every single bird is vaccinated in November after moult I saved a young cock that I had bred of a pair I called the golden pair and immediately thought he would be the finest stock cock I had bred ,jagged him six times Bred from him the following year with no problems in fact he was the sire of the hen I clocked from Reims He was vaccinated with all others following November then I made a huge mistake by splitting him away with the other cocks within a week through stress of being separated his head was upside down ,quarantined him and jagged again using colombovac the two weeks later repeated as advised still no improvement put him with his hen to no avail and sadly had to dispose of him ,all others 100% Now vaccinated darkness youngsters in March with colombovac and they took ybs After they came off darkness 14 th June let all natural youngsters run with them All youngsters are now racing the sky's Jagged natural youngsters with nobilis and they have been spot on Food for thought ?
