Blue Tooner Posted August 4, 2016 Report Posted August 4, 2016 Whatever race programme is decided upon should be stuck to for 5 years minimum....all the chopping and changing every year has taken the prestige away from all the national races, especially the gold cup. With more prestige I think more fanciers would have a go. Any views on the gold cup being from the longest race? A true distance test for all sections to win the most prestigious trophy! Food for thought?
dal2 Posted August 4, 2016 Report Posted August 4, 2016 Yes definitely time we all faced facts regardless of where we race from ,I watched all peregrine webcams with interest each nest rearing 3/4 young these young left the nests to be taught to kill just as our water races were starting so the number of hunting Falcons just multiplied by 3x4 This years channel races Reims 1323 entered 113 on result bottom velocity 401 ypm Ancenis 294 entered 77 on result bottom velocity 458 ypm Ypres 2324 entered 294 on result bottom velocity 560 ypm Roye 1135 entered 114 on result bottom velocity 617 ypm Those facts clearly show there are no good race points 1000's of the so called cream missingAye that suMs it up quite nicely Mick.....no much great racing in those figures regardless of distance or line. The race frae reims was a sickner and the birds frae ancenis came better than the ypres yins! Alencon? Laferte? Leman? Let's go tae them all to see what's best lol

Food for thought? I don't disagree with that Stu as long as its a 1 - 2pm liberation, then the whole of Scotlands got a chance of winning.

Yes,,,that would be the way to go Derek..It's time to think out of the box to get the national back to where it should be!
moscow master Posted August 4, 2016 Report Posted August 4, 2016 Davy I have the old club trophies dating back to when I joined in 1972 The Rennes Cup The Nantes cup Best average Rennes and Nantes Flown for each and every year We do not buy new trophies now as the race points change each year It is very sad what is happening to our sport Was just looking at solway ring allocation list for this year Issued to members 7470 rings Third young bird race Saturday past convoy of 2100 By time Stafford comes along 6-800 ? What are Lanarkshire and other federation figures Where are all the birdsYour right Mick the games fkd look no further than fed level Ayrshire has 16 rings left from 10000 and you'll be lucky if there's 1000 away this weekend and we're not at 100mls yet look at the mighty Lanarkshire in 4/5 old bird races there's around 6000 amiss and they've got the finest guys looking after their doos yet nobody on here shouting people to blame it's just the way it's going now national racing is struggling big time as nobody can hold onto doos now regardless if you're a good or bad fancier so no point in pointing fingers Feds are getting disasters before the Nationals come along the birdage tells you this
glencameron Posted August 4, 2016 Report Posted August 4, 2016 In my opinion the gold cup should be about the pinnacle of our sport, it should not be easy (perhaps even a life times building towards) . It should be difficult and a test of fair endurance ( a whole day race) and to clock on the night 12 -15 hours is wonderful. Watch a cycling race in the Tour de France they can all race at great speeds , let them face a gradient and watch the pack being spread out when tested. Those that look good on the flat suddenly are nobody. To attain a good result brings memories, 1976 is the highest birdage ever for the gold cup and I remember my dad bringing in "the red hen" to the house at 9.02pm just after clocking although only young you could sense it was an achievement . It is an immense memory and I don't think you can get that if it's not on the night, difficult to achieve , the best have worked through etc. Recently I met Paul Dora who won Rennes 1961 , and I was honoured , because he won the race.
moscow master Posted August 4, 2016 Report Posted August 4, 2016 The glory days are over just enjoy what's left of the sport whether you're flying 50 or 600 miles who cares as long as you still get that buzz that keeps us sending doos each week

Novice Posted August 5, 2016 Report Posted August 5, 2016 Correct Ricky Just talking to clubmate last night and he's had 40 youngsters killed at the loft before they ever got chance to see a transporter Clubmate saw my youngsters being struck just north lockerbie he said five sat on his neighbours roof all night They got struck at 12 noon and started working home to me at 3pm next day 27 hrs sitting 10 mls away I have stopped training just send them Saturday'sMike, this post taken along with your earlier post which highlighted returns from various race points tends to highlight what we all already know. It's not really the race point which is the problem. It's all along the route and, particularly at the home end where the problem lies.We constantly change race points but we have not resolved the issue by doing so.The work must be done at the home end.If everyone dealt with their own area we would be problem free from John o' Groats to Lands End.
Buff Posted August 5, 2016 Report Posted August 5, 2016 when we came into doo,s in the early 70s, everybody wanted a good rennes or nantes doo, the stories about them that still keeps me going yet, thats what missing now with pigeons,100% Davie , Here in Forth still get told the story's of Rennes doos and of course John McGillvays 2 Nantes National wins , fastest and slowest at the time .
