yeboah Posted August 4, 2016 Report Posted August 4, 2016 Moffat doesnae count Mick, you should be in the West Section Have always thought that Lewis I'm 28 mls to Gretna Yet only 25 mls to Davy Elliot at Newbigging
Novice Posted August 4, 2016 Report Posted August 4, 2016 I do believe the logical reason was to hoodwink the members by the Committee because by moving to the East of France the Nat would save money crossing the channel, Dover - Calais versus Portsmouth - Cherburg at more than half the ferry price. The SNFC inland races have destroyed the Feds for its own preservation and to my mind the main reason fanciers are departing the sport. One just has to look at the last Rennes race flown and every subsequent gold cup to see we have lost the magic of the name Rennes which was and still is THE REAL GOLD CUP.Good post Peter. Rennes was a magic race point and in those long lost days almost every fancier in the land entered their best pigeons in the hope of glory
DJL Posted August 4, 2016 Report Posted August 4, 2016 all distance races are poorly attended now, because only a handful of people can get them, and thats why the shorter races get more numbers, because it easier, we have two races over 500ml plus 1@550ml, 1@ 600ml, we have 5 races under 500ml with the snfc with 2@ 290ml, 1@365ml, 1@440ml,1@500ml, into central scotland, and the reason the solway get them, is there good doo men and going with mnfc, helps them big style, and history tells you the greatest races in scotland were rennes and nantes, Good post Davie
JohnQuinn Posted August 4, 2016 Report Posted August 4, 2016 No be much glory about it when there is less than 1000 pigeons at it The Gold Cup will never lose the prestige George no matter the birdage. It will drop to under 1000 in the not too distant future regardless, but All birdsges will drop in line with it. Jmo
yeboah Posted August 4, 2016 Report Posted August 4, 2016 plenty short nationals, hope they leave rennes and nantes alone, that what the snfc is all aboutDavy I have the old club trophies dating back to when I joined in 1972 The Rennes Cup The Nantes cup Best average Rennes and Nantes Flown for each and every year We do not buy new trophies now as the race points change each year It is very sad what is happening to our sport Was just looking at solway ring allocation list for this year Issued to members 7470 rings Third young bird race Saturday past convoy of 2100 By time Stafford comes along 6-800 ? What are Lanarkshire and other federation figures Where are all the birds

yeboah Posted August 4, 2016 Report Posted August 4, 2016 Good post Peter. Rennes was a magic race point and in those long lost days almost every fancier in the land entered their best pigeons in the hope of gloryThe old fanciers who no longer compete still ask each year have you any away to Rennes No matter what changes that one should defo be gold cup Jock Allan Symington when I was a lad used to time them for fun

VMS Posted August 4, 2016 Report Posted August 4, 2016 To much living in the past Reims and Ancenis are the modern day race points get on with it :emoticon-0136-giggle:
dkj Posted August 4, 2016 Report Posted August 4, 2016 To much living in the past Reims and Ancenis are the modern day race points get on with it :emoticon-0136-giggle: just different names but the same races, gold cup, and the longest race,
VMS Posted August 4, 2016 Report Posted August 4, 2016 just different names but the same races,Too many looking for a easy time Davy which you will never get from theses distances the looses are what they are.Every year I go and every year I lose what I think are some of my best pigeons but if I get one it makes it all worth while,I hear a lot about building teams which I don't believe is possible from 500 mile plus races you may have a family that will produce birds that are capable but never will you have a team and IMO sending yearlings is madness.
peter pandy Posted August 4, 2016 Report Posted August 4, 2016 To much living in the past Reims and Ancenis are the modern day race points get on with it :emoticon-0136-giggle:Aye,,, And whats your excuse for not using modern transporters ??.
VMS Posted August 4, 2016 Report Posted August 4, 2016 Aye,,, And whats your excuse for not using modern transporters ??.I am all in favour of modern transportation so bed time fur you.

walterboswell59 Posted August 4, 2016 Report Posted August 4, 2016 walter i like all snfc races and try to win at them all, but for me its all about rennes and nantesi agree 100 percent m8 no better feeling than getting a good yin from one of these great races even people in the street that know nothing about pigeons still ask me when the rennes race is
VMS Posted August 4, 2016 Report Posted August 4, 2016 i agree with you on most of it, apart from the yearlings bit, but if you get a yearling right they will win ok at 500ml plus, but getting them right is the hard bit, not just yearlings any ageI struggle from Reims wi 2 and 3 year old pigeons think I could be out the game if I sent yearlings :emoticon-0136-giggle:

dkj Posted August 4, 2016 Report Posted August 4, 2016 I struggle from Reims wi 2 and 3 year old pigeons think I could be out the game if I sent yearlings :emoticon-0136-giggle: the problem is some boys win y/ bird races, and upto 250ml with old birds and think racing easy, go to the nationals and get hammered, and blame everything bar them selfs, 500ml plus racing hard, everybody gets plenty knocks, but you when you get one, you think its all easy again
geordie1234 Posted August 4, 2016 Report Posted August 4, 2016 (edited) Personally I don't care about the distance for me it's about getting a big turn out and making it the biggest and the best race around... Don't see other way to increase entries tbh other than shorter distance or drop the inlands Edited August 4, 2016 by geordie1234
