dal2 Posted August 4, 2016 Report Posted August 4, 2016 Personally I would ditch the first inland and move the second race to the 2nd Saturday of the month. This IMO would facilitate members sending to the Gold Cup and the longest race. I agree with Andy that the Gold Cup should be at least 550mls into the central belt, it is feasible a sprinter could win Roye and the Gold Cup is and should remain out of the reach of sprint Doos. Apart from that I would vote status quo in the channel races.Sprinters at the channel wotever next lol
dal2 Posted August 4, 2016 Report Posted August 4, 2016 Oh well better hire the double decker bus or maybe 2 to keep Reims for Gold Cup Maybe no need any busses the agm might be at the end of yer road?
geordie1234 Posted August 4, 2016 Report Posted August 4, 2016 Sprinters at the channel wotever next lolHow dare a sprinter have the audacity to win a 500 miler :emoticon-0136-giggle:
dkj Posted August 4, 2016 Report Posted August 4, 2016 Why is that davie? So we can have less than a thousand doos next year and struggle to get a quarter of them home? because its only 430/440mls into the south section for the gold cup, i think every loft should fly 500ml plus for the gold cup, different pigeons for 500ml plus racing, if your worried about numbers of doo,s, just have two channel races and one inland race, three weeks apart each race, and you can jump them into each race
JonesyBhoy Posted August 4, 2016 Report Posted August 4, 2016 17 June - Dorchester 30 June - Rennes 8 July - Nantes 14 July - Sartilly Simples 😉
JohnQuinn Posted August 4, 2016 Report Posted August 4, 2016 Oh well better hire the double decker bus or maybe 2 to keep Reims for Gold Cup Nae worries there Andy, no way will Dundee and Fife hand the gold cup tae the south section on a plate. 👀 👀
Rooster J. Cogburn Posted August 4, 2016 Author Report Posted August 4, 2016 because its only 430/440mls into the south section for the gold cup, i think every loft should fly 500ml plus for the gold cup, different pigeons for 500ml plus racing, if your worried about numbers of doo,s, just have two channel races and one inland race, three weeks apart each race, and you can jump them into each race I suppose it takes different pigeons for 550 plus and 600 plus too? you know as well as anybody it doesn't get any easier as the miles go on. Racing from anywhere in France the Southerly fliers will always fly 60-70miles shorter than the central belt and the Northerly fliers 70-90miles further. With the number of hungry hawks in the skies at the moment looking for a tired meal, the days for pushing the boundaries are long gone-it's all been done. My thinking was a race where everybody has a chance of clocking on the day for the Gold Cup would be a good thing. The Gold Cup race if left as it is will dwindle in numbers year on year-there's top fliers with established families struggling to time, what chance do those just starting out at channel racing have? I've friends down in England who told me how much Scottish pigeon racing was admired in their area, some superb distance races with numerous birds on results often split by less than a yard etc. Now we've Gold Cup races lasting three days and hours often separting the first three in each section. That isnae good is it? Don't think a shorter Gold Cup race is guaranteed to sort all those things, but it's at least worth a bash and I can't imagine it'd be worst than what we're doing now.
Rooster J. Cogburn Posted August 4, 2016 Author Report Posted August 4, 2016 Nae worries there Andy, no way will Dundee and Fife hand the gold cup tae the south section on a plate. 👀 👀 They more than held their own in this year's Roye race and are never far away from Ypres. I'm pretty sure they did no bad from the previous 'short' Gold Cup flown from Liege tae
JohnQuinn Posted August 4, 2016 Report Posted August 4, 2016 They more than held their own in this year's Roye race and are never far away from Ypres. I'm pretty sure they did no bad from the previous 'short' Gold Cup flown from Liege tae Aye Lewis but they think they're playing way fire fae the shorter channel races. It gives too many others a chance if they were at 430mls for the Gold Cup.Tell ye what put yer proposal in and there WILL be bus loads at the meeting tae prevent it and they'll aw talk way a twang lol
VMS Posted August 4, 2016 Report Posted August 4, 2016 The birdage sent to the channel races are dwindling purely down to the inland races, remove this option and the birdage will increase simple as that IMO

It doesn't get any easier after the Solway. Good, give John Stokes another wee turn this year

I wisnae at the last meeting John, but whoever yer talking about tell them they have nothing to fear. They have my word
DJWa Posted August 4, 2016 Report Posted August 4, 2016 The birdage sent to the channel races are dwindling purely down to the inland races, remove this option and the birdage will increase simple as that IMO WRONG do that and you will lose 1/2 your membership fanciers these days don't have the birds in numbers to send these distance racesevery time I build up a few birds to target the channel I lose them in the build up races barr yearlings ive only 2 I would send across confidently started this year with 12 or 14 earmarked and lost near them all

DJWa Posted August 4, 2016 Report Posted August 4, 2016 Did you use the inland races as prep races for the channel races no ive birds that can fly inland national races but only 2 left who I could send over the water every time ive tried to get a channel team together ive failed as ive lost them inland must not have the right birds or something will keep trying to build a team ( some new stock in this year ) remember were 450 plus miles to the coast from here and fly further to an inland race than some fly in some channel races
JohnQuinn Posted August 4, 2016 Report Posted August 4, 2016 If its the current president you mean you are wrong. Naebody asked you George. Your good at chipping in but no so good at speaking yer mind, ye were the same at the committee meetings. You supported he view "what's said in this room stays in this room" I remember it well.

It's the biggest race of the season and it's poorly attended. Roye isnae a canter, it's still more than a test for the doos, but it's within the reach of more fanciers and pigeons. Think ye want something that's appealing to folk or the birdage will just shrink year on year-how can it do anything else? By all means keep Ancenis for those who want a bash at greater distances and fancy handing the South Section the prizes on a plate, ae John Quinn?
JohnQuinn Posted August 4, 2016 Report Posted August 4, 2016 at least my toys stayed in the pram, I never had a pram, Craigneuk peeps are ready tae Run at birth, and You were never geed toys tae play way that's how yer eyes are sore 😳

By all means keep Ancenis for those who want a bash at greater distances and fancy handing the South Section the prizes on a plate, ae John Quinn? all distance races are poorly attended now, because only a handful of people can get them, and thats why the shorter races get more numbers, because it easier, we have two races over 500ml plus 1@550ml, 1@ 600ml, we have 5 races under 500ml with the snfc with 2@ 290ml, 1@365ml, 1@440ml,1@500ml, into central scotland, and the reason the solway get them, is there good doo men and going with mnfc, helps them big style, and history tells you the greatest races in scotland were rennes and nantes,
