ally mac Posted February 24, 2016 Report Posted February 24, 2016 How do you lads fly your yearlings?
Tony C Posted February 24, 2016 Report Posted February 24, 2016 How do you lads fly your yearlings?First race sent sitting then on widowhood thereafter.
Delboy Posted February 24, 2016 Report Posted February 24, 2016 It doesn't matter what system you use Ally, its winding yearlings up early on that can be foolish. Race widowhood but don't show the hens until they return, definately from the first few races anyway, omo.

To be honest I'm more interested in just getting them home from the first few races anyway as they probably wont be trained past inverary which is 25 mile or so. After a few then can look at getting them up a bit quicker.

Don't show the hens and cocks together before the race?

Delboy Posted February 24, 2016 Report Posted February 24, 2016 (edited) Del, I take it roundabout would be the same? Don't show the hens and cocks together before the race? Aye, roundabout too, the yearlings ultra motivated early on can sometimes overfly and over try and inevitably get lost. You can show the old experienced birds their hens before basketting if you think its needed. Edited February 24, 2016 by Delboy
Delboy Posted February 24, 2016 Report Posted February 24, 2016 Some old guys in my family blame the over sex motivation of yearling cocks for their demise, the pigeons not them you understand I agree , mind ye, there is always the exception and this is what makes the pigeon sport so good, nobody really knows the answers. I can only go by percentages and experience.
Wiley Posted February 24, 2016 Report Posted February 24, 2016 Without fail i always show yearling cocks their hens, its the amount of time they see their hens that can make them loopy but thats the same with old pigeons too, birds must go every race calm
William Reid Posted February 24, 2016 Report Posted February 24, 2016 Do you think its possible to over excite a yearling on widowhood?. No it is up to the fancier to learn/show the yearlings what to expect .For me one thing about W/H or ROUNDABOUT systems the birds will show more of their own personality. . Ps. I'm only a club fancier at best .
