I agree they have laid the red carpet out for the headman of China, China has flooded the world with cheap steel and are selling it at a loss .Now Cameron and his cronies are going to let china build the new high speed railway as they have the technology Guess what they will have to use miles and miles of steel rails and it will come all the way from China As there will be no more steel plants left in this country Because the chinks have priced them out the market and its( British Steel No More)

philg50
If British steel had been subsidised Scotland would not have to go to China for the simple reason the price would be competitive ,its seems its cheaper to create the unemployed and dole cues than invest long term in creating and maintaining employment in this so called Great Britain ,poor investment back into where the elite made their money created this in the past ,as the saying goes, to take from the rich is terrible ,but to take from the poor is Capitalism .IMO. When mixed with the Swedish ore, our steel was the best in the world. With a little substicy the cheapest too. Like wise our coal. £26 a ton to produce... with a £1 a ton substicy for making it smoke zone happy the cheapest bar far. Germany paid £28 a ton substicide .. from £56 a ton. philg50
Yes Peter agree.Suits them when it suits them!I just noticed this had been brought up again so to answer the question why SNP government used chinese steel well as far as i know no where in Scotland made the right grade, the place that did had already been closed. Paul Mac 31
Currently doing repair work in TATA Dalzell and cambuslang , been there on and off for 2 years, 7 weeks left on our contract.between they two plants and s*expletive removed*horpe it is losing 7 million per month. Main problem is China, date back to 2006, we could bring in An excavator bucket from china, brand new ready to go on the machine, for less than we could buy the steel to build one here.less quality , but cheaper and in todays cut throat market its anything to make a profit.thats why people will buy it. so this has been in the pipeline for 20 years,, you now get the MPs wanting their 10 mins a glory, when in truth they will do nothing. sammy
the steel plants will shut like they did under thatchers rule cheaper to import untill all steel mills are gone then china will demand a higher price for their steel and we have no mills to make it our selves

KMCK
Ive recently been working for Mahle Engine systems in Kilmarnock making steel bushes for car engines the factory makes Bushes, Bearings, Flanges Etc for car engines however about 40 of us got paid off about 3 weeks ago and its been announced that a further 170 workers will be paid of by January with the work moving over the Germany, a factory that once had over 2500 workers will be down to less that 200 be Christmas, sadly its a sign of the times the country is to busy looking at whats going on overseas rather than work on our economy as they say the rich are getting richer and the working class are now struggling to put food on the table, Sadly in Kilmarnock once the doors close at Mahle that will be Kilmarnock finished with Production a town that once had Johnnie Walkers, Carpet Factories, Glenfield Valves, Barclays trains and many many more and sadly none are left
