PAPA B Posted September 14, 2015 Report Posted September 14, 2015 What is the answer to young birds ranging. My two birds done there first 5mile toss yesterday, they came home later on in afternoon.(should have been 10mins)'They were fed before toss.Today I thought I'd leave it a few days before I do 10 miles. However I let them out the coop. But they went ranging out of sight from my area till about 4 in afternoon. Is this normal or should I reduce there feed.
dal2 Posted September 14, 2015 Report Posted September 14, 2015 Ranging is a normal trait with young birds. Feed them less they will stay close.

Kyleakin Lofts Posted September 14, 2015 Report Posted September 14, 2015 I can't get mine to range. Never have over the last 6 years. Where I live I am able to see the Campsies to the north and Ailsa to the south. Goodness knows what they see. I guess this is why they don't range.
paddymac Posted September 14, 2015 Report Posted September 14, 2015 My Ybs are still ranging everyday I let them out, sometimes their away for over an hour.
neila Posted September 15, 2015 Report Posted September 15, 2015 Mine range well to they have had a few training tosses but after that although they fly well at home they never go out of site I feed them light in the morning 2-3 grams of seed not much at all then 32 grams at night which has 10 grams of barley in it I thought it was the training that stops them going off as they ranged well before on the above feeding
walterboswell59 Posted September 15, 2015 Report Posted September 15, 2015 the more they range the better they will be not only fitter but taking in the local landscape as long as they are not being attacked everytime there out let them range imo
