alec guinness Posted February 12, 2015 Report Posted February 12, 2015 Have had a lot of bother with moles at the small holding with four badly affected areas and the worst being in front of the dookit!! Have been messing about with cheap traps bought from ebay which I now know are no use, bought the proper ones which arrived yesterday which are approved by the british mole trapping association, when going down to the loft this morning finding two wee moles in the new traps. Delighted !!!

peter pandy Posted February 12, 2015 Report Posted February 12, 2015 I have cleared many a garden of moles using the claw trap (see post 3 above) But regarding trapping them you have to make sure you place them in a tunnel. To explain further some mole hills are at the end of a tunnel and some are part of a continuation. What to do is dig down through the molehill and make sure their is an inlet and outlet tunnel underneath then you know its a continuing passage that will be used and put your trap in. If their is only one tunnel leading into the mole hill then dont waste you time putting in a trap .
bullcock Posted February 12, 2015 Report Posted February 12, 2015 When I was a boy I used to hang around the farms and my school friend used to catch the mole and I remember one day we saw a fresh dig and the soil was moving up and down in the mole hill as the mole was actually digging, we all stopped well clear of it and my friend very carefully walked to a mole hill to one side of the active mound and gently pushed a spade down to block the run, then gently walked in a wide berth around to the other side and carefully dug out a mound at the other side and placed a trap, once set we all jumped up and down and we herd the mole whack of the spade at one side then get caught in the trap at the other we pulled the trap out and it was alive we let it go and immediately it started digging into the ground, I couldn't believe how fast it could break through the surface.Great childhood memories.
Kyleakin Lofts Posted February 12, 2015 Report Posted February 12, 2015 The cats used to catch them for fun, they never ate them or damaged them in any way.
