mushroom Posted November 17, 2014 Report Posted November 17, 2014 There is no bird flu in Cumbria or Dumfriesshire, I have not seen a peregrine for a couple of months, only 1 sparrowhawk in 4 months, no foxes or stoats have been in my lofts and the price of corn is down as is diesel. The birds have had a great moult and are 100% healthy. Things really are looking up and the future for pigeon racing is looking brighter than ever.

mushroom Posted November 17, 2014 Author Report Posted November 17, 2014 no peregrines in Cumbria !!!! , what blinkers are you wearing ?Read my post again I said I have not seen a peregrine I never said there are none in Cumbria. I, like everyone else in the area, am usually plagued with them. Why is it that when someone tries to be upbeat about the pigeon game there is always some doom and gloom merchant ready to try and depress everyone.
dal2 Posted November 17, 2014 Report Posted November 17, 2014 Well done Tommy. I havent seen the percy for months

dal2 Posted November 17, 2014 Report Posted November 17, 2014 Do they migrate? Serious question by the way!No but they will move territories usually in the autumn
b.massey Posted November 17, 2014 Report Posted November 17, 2014 My birds are never out (Late Sept to Early Feb) so maybe the reason I aint seen our local pair as not been looking
gulkie Posted November 17, 2014 Report Posted November 17, 2014 No but they will move territories usually in the autumnSorry Dał but some do mygrate All depends on the weather ,seen a documentry that theRSPB were up in arms about the amount that were being shot while passing through ItalianMountains.
walterboswell59 Posted November 17, 2014 Report Posted November 17, 2014 Do they migrate? Serious question by the way!some do some dont if there is plenty to eat they stay here
Novice Posted November 17, 2014 Report Posted November 17, 2014 Sorry Dał but some do mygrate All depends on the weather ,seen a documentry that theRSPB were up in arms about the amount that were being shot while passing through ItalianMountains. Some migrate but I am not sure that they all do. Given the number of migratory birds which pass through here in winter they may have more food than enough without pigeon on the menu.

Walter swanston Posted November 17, 2014 Report Posted November 17, 2014 Peregrine.Latin Pergrinus literally means one from abroad or traveller, i they were named as such by our more observant ancestors cause they move around the world.I wish they would move permanently from here.

cemetary Posted November 17, 2014 Report Posted November 17, 2014 Was down at the NEHU show at the weekend, we was speaking to a scaffolder that stays there locally, he was working in Bifab in Methil down the road from me, he was saying he watched the peregrine grab a pigeon out the sky, flew with it then dropped it. looks like it was a feral one, or the peregrine knew it wasn't a prize racer.
