When you talk about rings TT are you tallking about identification rings or ETS chip rings, because I think it was Webmaster who posted sometime ago that he had seen rings on show I think it was in Germany, with the Identfication abd chip ring combined, which of course will cut the costs in the future if the Unions decided to go along with these

qouted from Chris Littles Posting

<However, what amazes me is why people should expect me to accept the fact that my birds have a few seconds disadvantage when it comes to trapping and clocking, this is where the dispute is and no one has yet to touch on this. Put it another way but yet just as equal , would you let your fellow competitors birds be liberated 10 / 20 seconds before yours in a race.....>

Chris, unless your transporter has cranked out crates on the bottom 5 rows, this is happening every week of racing anyway, look at any video's of liberations and the bottom crates birds are always held down by the birds from the higher crates when clearing

I still think that most of those that have posted here against ETS are selfish in that they don't feel that others should be allowed to also choose which they prefer to use.

Posted

I really honestly and truly think Carol, some people's mindset hasn't moved much further forward that the days when only the rich man had the clock and the others who hand't had to run to his loft to time their rubbers in.

Hyacinth, I really hope I don't have to use TWO rings on my pigeons, ID AND chip rings.  There slow enough as it is LOL.

Another question ETS users.

If there are no day birds from any particular race and our pigeons go down for a drink and soil their chip ring, would it register on the pad.when they eventually arrive home.?

Posted

Yes it will TT, we've had birds home before with mucky feet and the chip ring has always worked.

Hi Mspigeon,

I think " selfish" is a harsh word to use because as you know I'm sure most pigeon fanciers would give their heart away and being against ETS ( as I am ) they are not only worried about the impact it would have on the fancy financially,  they are worried about an unfair advantage should two pigeons from different lofts arrive together one with ETS and one without because I'm sure the ETS system will ALWAYS beat a hand timing system.  If they should give the hand timer an allowance, it would have to be a generous one for me because I am totally wrapped up in the excitement of it all, there's rubbers flying everywhere.  Love it.

I'm not against change but should something come in that would effect my family finances and present standard of living it would be bye bye pigeons and I'm a little frightened that this could be it.

Final question,

What is the life span of a pad and how often is it reccommed that the sytem is serviced.

CAN SOME ONE TELL ME IF YOU TAKE YOUR ETS TO GET CHECKED AFTER YOU HAVE TIMED AND IT HAS BEEN STRUCKOFF CAN YOU GO BACK AND TAKE  ANY OTHER BIRD TO GET ON THE RESULT  AS IN MOST CLUBS AS THE RACE IS OVER FOR YOU WHEN YOU GET YOUR CLOCK STRUCKOFF

This is one of the stickingpoints for me.  In my town we have about 30 lofts & each and every one of us flies "open door".  Up in Scotland I think they do use traps a bit more than us down here.   What is unacceptable to me is that to have the system in place at your lofts you have to ultimately re-design your loft & i'm not prepared to do that at all.   Our home environment is one of the reasons why our birds race well & I'm not gonna compromise that for anybody - and I'm not talking about expense personally - although I acknowledge it is an issue for many.

I want someone to show me how I can fly Open door with ETS and have our birds hit the back of the loft without me having to catch them.   Am I asking for too much?  Hyacinth's system is obviously ok for her & that's fine ..  That's her opinion & she has a right to it - personally (my opinion) I'd leave the sport before my birds came home from a race like that (no disprespect intended Linda)

Part of the romance is catching the bird & getting it in the thimble. Every week I bet we al here of "the one that got away". It always happens - even to Old Hands.  Happened with me last year. Houdini was 2nd in one race & i know he should have won it - didn't tell anyone what went wrong though. He hit his box & had his rubber removed - that was his job done - it was me that fluffed it & got beat by .6 of a yard.    Take that away from us & to me, we've got precious little left.

Same joy as distance racing. I've only ever sent 2 pigeons to Bergerac - 557 miles. Both home on the day.  The excitement of catching the pigeon cannot be replicated by sitting watching him drop into a trap. Bugger that for a game of soldiers!   That's what I say when I say i've "seen" it in action. Watched it loads of times on the continent but its not as enjoyable as standing near the dors waiting for the bird to go THUD and hit his box

Hyacinth,

Talking about the olden days and running to one clock, I remember we had two pigeons come some 20 seconds apart and my Uncle who was fifty---ish set off running down the road.  I took the second rubber, me being 20--ish and chased him.  I was just about to pass him when his trousers fell down and he fell flat on his face.  The whole street was in stitches.  We never did time in for laughing.  Where have all those lovely times gone. ?

everything you want to know about ets is out on video.

Rose,

Shouldn't the motivation factor be the other way round ? and that would be to prove that you could beat ETS with your OLD SYSTEM.

Posted

Scenario. The top flyers in my club have ETS, I not to give them an advantage get the system installed. I win a race beating a pensioner by a decimal, he/she cant afford the ETS he/she times in on a conventional clock.

That to me would devalue the win big time, any race I win I want it to be down to merit and merit alone. The pensioner ? he/she has every right to be felt cheated out of a win.

To me here lays the problem.

Selfish ?

yes u can take ur clock back after take off and get the time of birds which were timed when u were away, read the UNICON ADVERT IN THE BHW, QUOTE " UNICON is the only ET system approved by the SHU which allows you to time birds at your loft while you take your clock to your clubhouse, ideal for future SNFC rades,"

this should answer the question regarding timing in while at the clubhouse,

There are a lot of things unfair in the Pigeon world that is .. stall traps ...that gives people at least a 20 second advantage over catching and timing maybe more. There was never a big hoo ha over stall traps ..it is a choice thing

The fly out from a transporter as per Hyacinth's post.

Ok Chris you are a walker and we get the guist about your feelings on the SHU ....Do you comply with all the RPRA rulings? At least with the SHU you can attend the AGM and vote rather than a regional rep

Anyway you have your feelings on the matter and YOU had a CHOICE to stay or leave SHU/SNFC ... let other folk have the same discretion with ETS

with most modern transporters birds are not all reliesed together, usually the bottom 2-3 go first, and it could mean a few seconds, i think it would be an impossabilty to have all fair for all in pigeon racing, there is advantages and disadvantiges all over the sport, i was not going to get involved in this at first because it usuallt turns into name calling, but after the web master gave a warning i thought we could have a sporting discussion on items, but the name calling always comes in so bye bye.

Tell you what IS interesting though.

Belgium, Holland, Scotland etc all have ETS in place -  the RPRA doesn't (Agree?).  Have a guess who has lost LEAST amount of members in the last 10 years?

When you get the right answer I wonder why that is the case??

Forthview - you touched on the fact that the SNFC have given ETS the green light for 2007......... I await with immense interest to see how this will be policed under the current laughable SHU rulings / guidelines.

well chris thats for the snfc committee to sort out  as said at the snfc agm :P

The American Racing Pigeon Union ARE GAINING MEMBERSHIP , nett increase for 2004 was 9 percent, and I've yet to hear of anyone leaving the sport because of ET, one of the main reasons people leave the sport is the Politicing by the Good Ole Boys.

I never mentioned the USA cos I didn't know their figures - but in Europe I do know the figures and the UK (RPRA) come out well - even though our membership is declining its true.

If ETS DID come into play i'm sure plenty would be upset. Me, I'd probably HAVE to have it - even though I don't really want it. If our biggest competitors get it, I can't afford not to race on the same footing as them - this is precisely why its unfair. I don't fly to get beat & I certainly am not prepared to give people an obvious advantage. How many more would feel like me?  LOADS.

I've always said that for ouro wn loft it would be a good thing - but i'm just looking out for the other geezers - manyo f whom don't wanna throw theier Toulets out and buy an STB let alone anything else!!!

I,m sure the SNFC commitee will get it right when it comes to the rules for ETS which was democratically voted in at the AGM. As for the other so called National club which was started to allow 4 suspended SHU members to fly well you can keep it Chris as there is only One GOLD CUP n you cant win that in the SNRPC............
