Kyleakin Lofts Posted September 23, 2014 Report Posted September 23, 2014 Just read an interesting article on genetically modified feeds. It is quite lengthy. http://www.articles.racing-pigeon-post.org/Youeat.pdf What are your thoughts.
hawked again Posted September 23, 2014 Report Posted September 23, 2014 Brilliant article. I've posted on here about GMOs a few times in the past. It's a long article but well worth a read. The big problem is, where do we get non GMO feed from? My supplier used to advertise being non GMO but no longer does. I suspect this is for the same reason a well known supermarket no longer claims to be GMO free, they told me when I emailed them that they just can't be sure if what they buy in is GMO or not so can't make the claim.
MIK Posted September 23, 2014 Report Posted September 23, 2014 Jasus Andy ...just took me an hour to dissect that ...sent mail of to natural granen ...be interested in there reply. good post
jbee Posted September 24, 2014 Report Posted September 24, 2014 Always thought young bird sickness could be contributed to this. Over that last 5 years have fed no maize to young birds till just before they started to race. Old birds rearing the young birds also don't have maize, substituted it with wheat from local farm.Luckily have not had the sickness during these . Very good article and should be given some thought!
lightning fast Posted September 24, 2014 Report Posted September 24, 2014 JMO also proven to stop bees homing ability !Wonder if its the same in pigeons????

Just for information, I have always fed maize and have never had YBS.
hawked again Posted September 27, 2014 Report Posted September 27, 2014 It takes a wee while but the way to find out what your giving to your birds is to plant a handful of feed and once it's grown a good bit, spray it with some of Monsanto's lovely Roundup. Anything that dies is good stuff, anything that lives is GMO. Simples! Gives you the option to look for another supplier but mind tell the current one why you're looking elsewhere.

Never thought of that!!! So simple to check. Ask if the feed is GM free, if it is buy it and start feeding. Grow some and prove they are not telling lies.
