greenlands Posted June 25, 2014 Report Posted June 25, 2014 Something I never thought about before till one of my youngens looked like it had been pecked in the eye, looks well handles well etc. etc.Checked the eye there are no bubbles so wasn't too sure what had happened or what it is.Been reading about a product for hay fever (eye drops sodium cromoglicate) and it gives the similar symptoms that the bird is showing, here's a new one on me but a fancier said his birds were troubled with one eyed cold some time ago especially during hay time.Half an aspirin, swears by them.He also said a lot of fanciers will laugh but if they have never tried them why are they laughing. :emoticon-0138-thinking: So the question is can they get hay fever ??Will listen or in this case read with anticipation your thoughts .
greenlands Posted June 25, 2014 Author Report Posted June 25, 2014 No opinions lads ?? By the way,the farmer cut a silage field within three yards behind my lofts just before the eye problem ? turned it the next day and again the day after ?
Delboy Posted June 25, 2014 Report Posted June 25, 2014 Very interesting m8, I don't see why pigeons don't or cant get hay fever as they can get most other human diseases.

greenlands Posted July 1, 2014 Author Report Posted July 1, 2014 Well I wouldn't give them aspirin it's a banned substance for pigeons So if you had a pigeon that was on it's last legs you wouldn't give it a banned substance, the birds not racing and won't be for another two week should it survive the training. :emoticon-0127-lipssealed:

If your happy giving you pigeons banned substances that's up to you, but You shouldn't be putting up advice to do so to others. And 2weeks will be in its system.

Report MultiQuote Reply So if I had a pigeon on its last legs would I not use a banned substance . As answered no I wouldn't but obvious by your comment you would.. It's banned so should not be even talked about on a forum were other fliers might think its a good idea and might try and use it and end up with a ban. As to my original post i would not use it as it is a banned substance.
greenlands Posted July 1, 2014 Author Report Posted July 1, 2014 Well done. You've proved your point. So you have one of your best pigeons take ill would you use something that you shouldn't use or just bin it.There's one thing for sure you're bringing it to everyone's attention.

If one of my best pigeons took ill I would treat on advice of a vet. As for brining it to everyone's attention I would not like any fancier seen banned for something they thought would be ok. So hopefully the more that read it the better and they can then tell others.
greenlands Posted July 1, 2014 Author Report Posted July 1, 2014 So put your list of banned substances up then we can all see what's what,or put a link up for the same.

Big Davie Posted July 1, 2014 Report Posted July 1, 2014 Gee them a piritonThat would be ok George it's not on the list , Christ have you seen the length of it, personally if one of my doos was unwell and I thought an aspirin would help it then I wouldn't hesitate to give it one , banned substance or not.
Kyleakin Lofts Posted July 1, 2014 Report Posted July 1, 2014 The list is a load of crap!!! You would need to be a chemist to know what these substances are.I have seen the list and have stated at SHU delegates meeting that the list is useless. Unions should demand a comprehensive list of common names for these substances to protect fanciers very few, if any, of whom are chemists and would know what any of these substances were.I certainly don't.

Correct. This is the first time I've seen the list and I'm still none the wiser.
