demolition man Posted January 28, 2014 Report Posted January 28, 2014 What do you sprint lofts feed your birds upon race return and why:?:
Wiley Posted January 28, 2014 Report Posted January 28, 2014 Protein, if you tear you must repair, whether sprinting or distance racing.
neila Posted January 28, 2014 Report Posted January 28, 2014 Protein, if you tear you must repair, whether sprinting or distance racing. would there be a limit to this Wiley ? I mean in a 100 mile tail wind would you still include protein and if so would this be in the form of a fat mix like diet or pea/bean mix or even a product maybe
alex young Posted January 28, 2014 Report Posted January 28, 2014 On return mine get 1/3 wid mix,1/3 protein mix,1/3 diet mix. This is fed sat/sun. as I like my birds to exercise from the sunday morning because I don't train. If the race has been easy they'll get 50% wid/diet.,it can change each week but I try not to vary it too much.

Lennut Tar Posted January 29, 2014 Report Posted January 29, 2014 Protein, if you tear you must repair, whether sprinting or distance racing. Nice to see a common sense reply Wiley etc.So many these days give them scraps "Light feed" when they return type of thing. I've never been able to understand their thinking.Enjoy.
Tony C Posted January 29, 2014 Report Posted January 29, 2014 1/3 pellets 1/3 condition mix 1/3 breeding mix. A light feed on return then when hens taken away fed to appetite. Nothing at all added to their drinking water. When you look at pigeons droppings on return from a race what your looking at is the pigeon excreting the by-products of the effort its put in (lactic acid etc)this is a sign of their internal organs working overtime. The pellets & condition seeds are easily digestible which will quicken the process of getting rid of this waste without over burdening the already overworked organs, in essence your trying to flush them out. Anything added to the drinking water will hinder this process. If you don't use pellets wheat is the next best thing. I stand to be shot down

alex young Posted January 29, 2014 Report Posted January 29, 2014 is the diet you mention Alex one that contains barley or more like diet 1000 with no barley but more small high fat grainsNeila, the diet mix I use is Bucktons diet supreme and is a high fat mix.It does contain a lot of small seeds and some use it as a conditioner, there isn't any barley in the mix.
neila Posted January 29, 2014 Report Posted January 29, 2014 thanks Alex good advice , I like your feeding system it seems very straight forward but correct to my way of thinkingcan I ask how you make sure that your birds do not over feed early in the week in order to build them up , is this by set amounts ? I guess that is why I mentioned if the diet had any barley thanks for your help neil
