Plenty of birds been clocked in, in the dark from Bourges - some of which must have flown all night to be clocked in at 4 in the morning doing nearly 1600ypm (because of hours of darkness) from a 1.00pm liberation, and they have certainly been clocked in at 10.30pm and 11.00pm - so not unheard of

I had an old hen that when let out used to go and sit at her old loft location which was closed up and no birds about it at all. She would spend a lot of time there and sometimes landed back at my loft in total darkness when most birds were settled up for the night.

when i moved to this address 11 years ago i was working in the loft at 10 oclock at night in december with the lights on pitch black out side the door of the loft had been left open and 30 birds flew out into the darkness i could hear them going round the loft flying faster and faster as they began to panic i could see them going away over the top of the factories behind my loft then back again they started to land at 12 30 with the last ones landing at 2 30 in the morning total darkness i could not believe it but i know people have trained pigeons to fly and home in total darkness by letting them out later and later then training them with short tosses in the dark amazing wee things our doos

I timed from the inland national this year, I thought it was too dark to get one, went and got ready for the pub and I seen a white flight drop from the sky onto the house roof and it was my pooler lol

I'm sure in some countries in Europe actually liberate at mid day for a two day race, but if your not in for day break your late, birds are trained to fly through the night and time around three in the morning, Lowik Bros are known as the night flyers.

If we scheduled to always have a mid day liberation from the 500+ races, we also would evolve to get the bird to time in throughout the night.

We were in Holland a couple of year's back and Mark Van den Berg was telling us. They liberated at nightfall and timed doos during the night. His loft had spotlights to illuminate the loft so the birds would trap.

Also was told a story with two prominent distance flyers both liberated late at night on the way home they seen the batch go down and land on a roof. On returning home both fanciers had one bird home each. Both these birds went on to score numerous times across the channel. Maybe just coincidence????

The young bird national this year guys were timing in the dark.

Yes many will fly in the dark I've tossed my nat birds at just before dark many times thinking it might teach them to get up early and get home only to find some on the loft on my return an hr later but some don't

Kipps are also known for clocking through the night reading the adverts but I think there are to many wires and don't think the birds in this country would stand much of a chance.

a lot of australian fanciers especially distance flyer train at night

under full moon to start with

this is done before the longest races

Very true !!!!!!! & they have been doing it for 50 odd years that I know of etc. Training is the key !!!!!! & it helps if you have many birds to play with at the start. The best of the night flyers etc, take to it like a duck in water.

I think I once read a book by Pierre Dordin who advocated night training.

I'll take yours every night I'm at work if ya like tony, 10 pm training any good?
