ALF Posted December 29, 2013 Report Posted December 29, 2013 Welcome to Pigeon Basics the best pigeon site on the net bar none where you will receive all the advice you want and lots more trust me i know after what happened to me a few weeks ago
Dankay123 Posted December 29, 2013 Author Report Posted December 29, 2013 I have joined as I have an interest in racing pigeons but I don't know fully what is involved. I have a club on my doorstep which I have enquired about joining. I have been gifted an old pair of good distance birds from a friend who raced in continental races. I have no clock yet but got loads of time as I think it will be 2015 before I start with a young team. Once bred do I need to register the young racers with rpra? How does this side of it work? Also how many young birds would I need for a season?
OLDYELLOW Posted December 29, 2013 Report Posted December 29, 2013 Your best bet is get a club , then you can get rings from the club the rings will be registered in your name You could offer to help an older member in the meanwhile and get some good experience
PIGEONPACKMAN Posted December 29, 2013 Report Posted December 29, 2013 Your best bet is get a club , then you can get rings from the club the rings will be registered in your name You could offer to help an older member in the meanwhile and get some good experience Good advise there, wish l had done it that way fist an experinced hand will help you with getting your feeding right and give you an idea about a racijg system and general well being of the birds if you find succsessfull one fo help
Dankay123 Posted December 29, 2013 Author Report Posted December 29, 2013 I have kept birds for years, bred canaries, goldfinches etc. but I will ask at club for advice.
gulkie Posted December 29, 2013 Report Posted December 29, 2013 As old yellow said apply to join a local club and they will give u all theInformation u require ,if u have only one pair of old birds u will be very limited To the amount of YB u can breed.welcome to the site.

Dankay123 Posted December 29, 2013 Author Report Posted December 29, 2013 Ok I made contact and I have been invited to meet a few of the lads in the morning. Plenty of people I can shadow and pick tips off. The birds I have been gifted are distance birds but the lad I spoke to said I would be better with sprinters to start with. They also said they can loan me a clock. Sounds a really friendly bunch.
