last week or so I've noticed when I go in loft to scrape out I get like an acid burning on my tongue, its only in one part of the tongue and only goes away when im in bed then back next day with scraping, I use a fp2 rated mask sometimes 2/3 at a time

I'll take a guess. Loft a wee bit damp, given time of year, and ammonia from excreta in the air. Your mask would stop dust, but perhaps not fumes.

never thought of that thank you, and yes loft is a bit damp

You have the wrong type of mask mate, :animatedpigeons:

what type do I need then please

I use the FFP2 NR I get from work, I think they are brill, I have no problems with them, I change them when I think fit to do so. ;)

Be careful what masks you buy from DIY, they will sell you anything mind. :D

I bought a new mask about a month back and found it to be okay and also blocks out the fumes as well as the dust. The make is Elipse A1P3R, if you google it should be on-line and I think I only paid about £25 for it so wasn't too expensive either. :)

thank you for replies and help :animatedpigeons:

buster if the ammonia in the loft is that strong you can taste it you need to look at the air flow in the loft m8 because it cant be doing the birds any good open the loft up a bit and put some easy bed down to dry it out make sure you dont have any leaks m8 but i can tell you any loft ive been in with a strong smell of ammonia won nothing get the air flow right and you and the birds will benifit

I dont know what it is I can't smell anything, the best way I can describe it is when we were kids we used to put the little 9volt batteries on our tongue to test well if you did that its similar feeling/taste

You are suppose to use the scrapper ... not your tongue lol :egyptian: :egyptian:
