has anyone noticed the abundance of fruit on the trees right now, the rowan especially is hanging with berries is this a sign of a bad winter or a good winter there seems to be a lot of weather forecasters on here so what is your thoughts?

the more berries on a tree is supposed to denote a harsh winter a head but every time we've had a harsh winner a good summer has followed ;)

It means there are no wild birds left to eat them, poor blighters. Something must be happening to the wild birds.

First heard the saying from a guy up Inverness way a good few years ago: remarked that Rowan was especially heavy with berries which the locals swore meant a hard winter ahead; the berries were Natures way of ensuring the birds put on enough fat to survive it.

if you look at the barley and wheat in the feilds they are very plump tyhis year aswell and plenty of it , only a sign that theres been ample rain and heat in balance for it to get to that stage ,

rowan apples etc the same need enough water and heat to produce a good crop
