Guest chad3646 Posted August 24, 2013 Report Posted August 24, 2013 has anyone noticed the abundance of fruit on the trees right now, the rowan especially is hanging with berries is this a sign of a bad winter or a good winter there seems to be a lot of weather forecasters on here so what is your thoughts?
doomaloon Posted August 24, 2013 Report Posted August 24, 2013 its a sign of a good summer and has no bearing on the severity of the forthcoming winter
OLDYELLOW Posted August 24, 2013 Report Posted August 24, 2013 the more berries on a tree is supposed to denote a harsh winter a head but every time we've had a harsh winner a good summer has followed

Guest IB Posted August 24, 2013 Report Posted August 24, 2013 It means there are no wild birds left to eat them, poor blighters. Something must be happening to the wild birds. First heard the saying from a guy up Inverness way a good few years ago: remarked that Rowan was especially heavy with berries which the locals swore meant a hard winter ahead; the berries were Natures way of ensuring the birds put on enough fat to survive it.
