Hope in continues in a fortnight.Yes good luck to you GarethWhen the Lanarkshire doos exit the valley onto open moorland if they do not swing for Appleby and Penrith it is of no great importance as they would continue into the otterburn area and home, that's where it can become sticky for the solway youngsters they have got to break to the left.Atb mick
alex young Posted August 9, 2013 Report Posted August 9, 2013 I'm finished for the season, wasn't on the darkness this year and have had 7 races with the youngsters,3x51mls,2x67mls,1x82mls and 1x105mls,that's 4 midweek and 3 saturday fed races.I could probably get a couple of more races out of them but they are starting to fall apart now.One of our feds are at 105mls this weekend and the other 170mls.Good luck to all who are racing.

Delboy Posted August 9, 2013 Report Posted August 9, 2013 Not sending this week :-( Why m8, get them away Andy.
Guest TAMMY_1 Posted August 9, 2013 Report Posted August 9, 2013 Hullavington this week 126 miles ,sending whatever is capable of flying [pigeons that is ]
ForestForever74 Posted August 9, 2013 Report Posted August 9, 2013 Why m8, get them away Andy. Doo's have taken at the earliest 3.5 hours to do 65 miles with some taking up to 7/8 hours that's from both Kelso races. Have been very lucky with returns up till now. Something isn't right and I have spent all week trying to get to the bottom of it and have been trying one or two things with them and I am happy with them again but training over the weekend and next week should see them well placed for the race a week onSaturday. Having only 3 doo's left from the old bird season this year we have to take a decent number of young birds through to next year. I have stopped 12 after the first two races and have 8 to play with for the rest of theyb season and hopefully make it to the yb national with two I have picked out since before start of the season. Worrying times for us just now Derek and with the way young bird racing is at the moment its a risky business. Getting through the yb season with numbers to compete next year is our goal. Small team flier syndrome perhaps???? :-)

Yip mate that fact has been on my mind but with numbers so low we are standing on the edge of the cliff and not being able to compete next year would be a huge step backwards for us and devastating for both Rab and I. The 3 that are left over have a national prize each so the standard has been set and hopefully we will add to that next year but we wont if we cant send and I cant let that happen. When we have an established national team in our old bird loft then we will take chances :-) some people are already where others are trying to get to :-)
Delboy Posted August 9, 2013 Report Posted August 9, 2013 Established national teams don't exist anymore m8, they are a thing of the past when there were very little losses and no BOP. What you need is an established stock team and that's what we all need to have longevity. Its funny how folk think, certain fanciers have this and that every year when in fact, the guys sending to ALL the nationals are usually left with very few but they hope they have the stock to reproduce what they've lost.

From previous experience carrying forward youngsters that are not "battle hardened" is only delaying the inevitable IMHO
