Yesterday afternoon, I was sat with the young birds out And i like to keep a few old hens with them just to help them mature a bit, while sat with them out i walked to close the gate and a few of the old hens went up, I ran too see what the fuss was about and a hawk had got one of my old hens and if i didn't go up she'd have been dead. just can't believe it went for a hen rather than a young bird. it was only a few feet away from me!

I would keep the birds in for now, wont be long until the hen sparra gets ready to go down on eggs, and also food is very scarce for them just now. :animatedpigeons:

I agree mate, it's out of control. As for keeping them in, it's hard doing that when they need to learn. I've always had them out around this time of year and not once had a problem, Just means in the future i'll have to be keeping a closer eye on them, Atb Andy

I was lucky today, My wife looked out the window and said there's some feathers there, I shot out the door and a male Gos was holding a Dk. Ch., it shot off and I walked over to pick the bird up and apart from a few feathers missing no damage, just lucky the wife looked out at that moment.
