sapper756 Posted February 6, 2013 Report Posted February 6, 2013 What do you think of this? saw it on fb and thought it may be of interest to the members on here. The young pigeons have to be three to four weeks old.You lay the youngsters in your hand in balance while you holdthe feet above the knees...You softly pull the young pigeon on its beakIf the tail goes up, its a henif the tail goes down its a cock( 99 to 100 % sure ) http://sphotos-e.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/563276_597088896972559_165611625_n.jpg

andyyy Posted February 6, 2013 Report Posted February 6, 2013 I got told about one with the pigeons toes, don't know if any of you guys have heard it before? If the toes are the same size it's a hen i think and if they are different then it's a cock could be other way round maybe xD

Wiley Posted February 6, 2013 Report Posted February 6, 2013 What about the smiling and frowning theory in nest?
Guest morty Posted February 6, 2013 Report Posted February 6, 2013 What about the smiling and frowning theory in nest? I have tried that theory this year.I made a note of each bird when ringing them, and will check against it when they are older.
Guest geordiejen Posted February 6, 2013 Report Posted February 6, 2013 theres another method to try.hold the bird upside down in the palm of your hand.hold its feet into its body until it relaxes.then ease the pressure on holding the bird.if it lies there still relaxed its a hen if it tries to get upright onto its feet its a cock.

Look out for it this year and put it in yer book when yer ringing Its the right and left one you should pay attention to when you press them against the middle one

Rooster J. Cogburn Posted February 6, 2013 Report Posted February 6, 2013 I used to be quite good at sexing young pigeons by listening to the noises they made, but I seem to have lost that ability as I've gotten older

JohnQuinn Posted February 7, 2013 Report Posted February 7, 2013 anybody tried this one ?? Aye Andy, that's how i do mine if i'm in any doubt about them. Though i don't put the tail up my arm i balance the doo Across my palm because i think its more accurate, i GUESS its because the Ck COULD resist turning up if its tail is obsructed by your arm, but it is only a guess. Always find that if i thought it a Ck and it turns out a hen they turn out far better birds than the other way round.
