I knew I had something on it somewhere.

Billy Gardiner’s 1965 winner was a pigeon called ‘Sky Queen’. Can’t find anything with a list of her performances but have been told she was the bird that was 2nd to ‘Blue Blitz’ the year before. The year she won ‘Blue Blitz was 2nd and the Horsburghs were 4th open with a pigeon known as ‘Fechan Girl’ who went on to be 17th Rennes 1966, 172nd Rennes and 70th Open Nantes.

Over four seasons the Horsburgh loft was 1st and 3rd Open Rennes with ‘Fechan Lass’, 3rd Open Nantes and 4th Open Rennes.

Some interesting stuff on their preparation techniques, but I’d be here all night typing it. In the article it points out that them and Billy Gardiner set an example for training on the road at a time when the motor car and hard training were little used.

The times ‘Fechan Lass’ scored from Rennes she was given 4 races to 222miles then 5 tosses in the days up to the race-three at 72 miles and two at 40 miles.
