Graham,

you might have delivered mine about six weeks ago, or a replacement headboard about a week later (no jokes about the headboard, is was'nt worn out, it was faulty!) Alexandria, Dumbarton. I used to work with a guy fae Patna, Tam Chalmers (Tittle) a greyhound man, he told me a story fae the Wheatsheaf one night, somebody he knew fae Patna (might have been you)came in for a pint on a Saturday after the race, the dooman was asked how the race went. "Terible" he replied "I wasnae in till nine o'clock". The guy replied quick as a flash "That'll be the Nine O'clock Doos then" before the dooman could reply someone else quipped, "It could have been worse it could have been Doos at Ten"

:P

I know Tittle very well.Think he stays in Ayr now but his mother still lives in Patna. Dont think i delivered to you as i am always on the look-out for dookits and did not notice one.

Naw Graham I dont keep them at the house, they're on an alottment across the river. If you run into Tittle tell him Hughie Houston was asking for him (I was his apprentice for a short time in the 80's, we worked together at Faulds of Maybole) He's some character and can tell a tale or two about the greyhounds. I used to fly in the Girvan club we were members of the old Kyle & Dist fed, I think Patna flew in it, maybe members of Mossblown?

Patna club was called Lethanhill .We flew with the Kyle and Dist when i was younger before joining Ballochmyle. I remember Ronnie Davidson who flew in patnership with someone in the 80s and 90s and flew a good pigeon into Girvan.

I grew up next door, but one, to Ronnie, he flew with Mark McIntyre as Davidson & McIntyre. Ronnie was a BIG influence on me starting in pigeon racing. He was one of the sport's good guys, never sold a pigeon in his life but would give them away freely, except to anyone racing against him in his club as he was very competitive. The partnership re-wrote the record books in the Girvan club, they swept the board season after season. It was a real tragedy when Ronnie sadly died in an accident 10 years ago, typically he was doing someone a favour when was killed.

He was always experimenting with new ideas. He once rung a wood pigeon in the nest, then weaned it with his own youngsters and eventually "raced" it, although it was only homing not racing. He was also an expert gardener, he won countless 1st prizes at the Ayr flower & veg show. He could grow onions the size of footballs and leeks the size of a baseball bat. I miss him he was a good mate.
