Andrew Flintoff hopes his experiences as a cricketer will help him mentally prepare for his professional boxing debut tonight.

Flintoff forged a hugely successful cricket career at international and county level before retiring in 2010, but he is now starting life as a boxer in a move which has been greeted with surprise and criticism.

"There will be critics and doubters out there and it's a big task I've taken on, I'm just concentrating on the fight and we'll see what the reaction is."

Andrew Flintoff

The 34-year-old will have his first fight against American Richard Dawson at Manchester Arena and Flintoff admits he is taking a step into the unknown.

I've watched a bit of his sparring and as much as I enjoyed his cricket I don't expect him to hear the bell for the start of the second round and he's giving away 2st.

If he has trained at boxing over the years he might have a chance but if not he will get a right kicking.

I've not boxed for 50yrs. but watching him training I wouldn't think he'd ever had gloves on before, I fear the worst

I think it's an insult to pro boxers who have been in the sport from childhood worked there way up through the ranks years of blood sweat and tears. then he can be classed as professional. Professional cricketer yes definitely, boxer.....never

it said on the news Richard Dawson is an unbeaten fighter, hes taking a very big risk if he is......

Said in the paper Dawson has gone "5" rounds thats 5 more than freddy. Lol

Would have been better set as a documentary showing his road to fitness etc it can never be more than a flash in the pan. Shame because a like freddy.
