We all know that good pigeon’s come in all shapes and sizes. So is winner to winner always the best way to build a family regardless of shape and size if you were building a family

 

I like to introduce pigeons that are of a simlar type to my own: :emoticon-0157-sun:

Micky Connolly many years ago told me forget about strain names, look to create your own pedigree with winners on all 5 generations on both sides, when you can do that you won't go far wrong. He in my experience was 100% correct. The idea is to create a winning gene pool.

Yes i agree with the Nearly's make up but i bet they were all a similar type of pigeon, That's what i'm trying to get at here.

Bern, our pigeons are different in sizes but they are to a type in the hand we like the bird to have balance and the tail flights to apper to be one piece.

feeding can put the tail into place as you know wiley, as feeding and flying for a few hours

will knock most birds into shape.

When asking about theories on selection,types,creating your own family etc.I was told by a top fancier-if you believe in good pigeons,the rest will fall into place.

 

The only criterion for his selection is performance.Could be coincidence but after flying birds under his management for three decades he has ended up with a type of birds that chose him,not the other way round.

 

He did not select for these traits but the birds he could call his own family have turned out medium/small,slightly shorter than a lot of birds,have the backs you could carry coal on,are well rounded,good muscle and a breast bone thats very difficult to expose on account of the thick feather coverage.Type wise the birds are all peas in a pod.

 

Many of them carry fantastic eyesign as well

No one could disagree with this method as surely this has been the route of all strain-makers but you can short cut this route by buying in a strain, I have four pairs that cost me a few hundred, the parents, g/parents and g/grandparents are all winners or breeders of, when you work out the cost of working several years on the winner to winner theory I'm sure mine is the most direct route and the cheaper

was just raising the point of the lad who selected only on performance and selected on type at the same time by accident.

lend us a fiver .....i'm just starting down the 'generations route'....though my stipulation is fed carded (or better) from 250+miles...or parent of such....it'll take years though...but i look at it as part of my hobby
