b.massey Posted September 29, 2012 Report Posted September 29, 2012 Lofts to be painted before winter sets in... Have to get all my 2012 cocks into the race loft for them to claim boxes. Also have set birds out for NEHU show and blackpool show. Also hoping to send a couple to the danderhall xmas race
Guest geordiejen Posted September 29, 2012 Report Posted September 29, 2012 shows mate this is my favourite time of the year,i dont race pigeons so the summer months spent after the breeding are a little quiet for me.first show is in egremont cumbria at the end of october.unfortunately i wont have any show racers to enter as the ones i bred this year and the stock birds were all stolen.but onwards and upwards as i have new stock birds to settle and now they are almost through the moult im thinking on which ones to pair up for next year.ive got some fancy breeds left the thieving buggers couldnt get at them.
The engineer Posted September 29, 2012 Report Posted September 29, 2012 I am starting to build my new 14 x 6 stock loft today. I then plan to start filling it.
Delboy Posted September 29, 2012 Report Posted September 29, 2012 Getting the birds through a good moult is my only priority at the moment but later on will have a few loft repairs to do before the breeding season.

Guest stb- Posted September 29, 2012 Report Posted September 29, 2012 lofts been gutted top to bottom and all birds now split up as they have been locked up 7 weeks now they are well through the moult . there might be a fewv 2012 ybs could be cocks but will show up in beside the hens soon
yeboah Posted September 30, 2012 Report Posted September 30, 2012 Been busy,Along with my cousin who is a woodcutter/tree surgeon removed a 8ft high hedge that ran the full length of my property tight behind the lofts the hedge has always been a problem as it was tight against the back of the dookit stopping a proper airflow,Erected a new fence thus creating an area of 6ft x 86ft at rear of the loft and filled in with cold tar chipping(knackered after barrowing that lot )Then took down a couple of internal partitions to create much roomier sections fitted sliding polycarbonate window to front of one section creating an excellent airflow that was always lacking, now have 2x 8ft x 6ft and 1x 6ft x 6ft widowcock sections with 52 boxes,A natural hen / breeder section 9ftx 8ft and a young bird section 10ft x 10ft and a front annex trapping yb section of 11ft x 6ft ,Now going to manufacture in my workshop a complete new loft front with full length aviary and trapping system all in white upvc ,then no more well so us doo men keep telling ourselves.
JohnQuinn Posted September 30, 2012 Report Posted September 30, 2012 Started cleaning my big loft out the other day and fitted some lift off perches where i had my stock doos, after a couple of days away this week i will get back into it on my return. Truth be told there is enough work to be done between the 3 lofts and the garden that it'll take to Christmas to get it all done.
lanarkshire lad Posted September 30, 2012 Report Posted September 30, 2012 Nest boxes have all been scrubbed out with bleach solution, all pigeons been dipped in chlorocarb and treated for canker with tricho plus before the big moult. The next thing i intend doing is worming them as ive not wormed them for about 5 years but that will be done after the moult.I also intend to try and get them out more this winter as i dont like locking them up to long it can lead to gammy wings when you do start to let them out due to being unfit and getting frightened by bops they take off at a hundred mile an hour which can cause damage to a very unfit pigeon.
THE FIFER Posted September 30, 2012 Author Report Posted September 30, 2012 some good reports, keep them coming, its interesting
eastcoaster Posted September 30, 2012 Report Posted September 30, 2012 Just about finished a full lenghth aviery 16x4 ft to racing loft ,trapping will be on front of aviery, the birds love it sitting out in all weathers.
scottym7 Posted October 1, 2012 Report Posted October 1, 2012 PANIC as i have one loft sold which goes away in two weeks and the other goes shortly after it, I have not got my new loft built yet and need to find spare baskets to keep my birds in while new loft being built which could be two weeks after the lofts go.However i cant wait to have the new loft even although it will snooker my plans for the show birds. Guest eddieg46 Posted October 10, 2012 Report Posted October 10, 2012 Just taken the 2 old lofts down and got 1 loft built 40x8, the nest boxes are being bulit off site and should be here tomorrow or Friday, the perches for the new middle section will hopefully be done at the weekend. My Dad has treated all of the exterior of the loft and I will paint interior at the weekend. So with any luck I should get my birds back early next week.
