andy Burgess Posted May 13, 2012 Report Posted May 13, 2012 after reading the 2nd day returns post , a few have mentioned birds turning up from a week or 2 previous races. i know a lot of birds are being brought back up country by un-seen folk ,who are going out of there way to help ,PMs off others who are willing to pick up from NEHU members etc,who themselves are going out of there way to collect SHU rung strays and pass them onto Transporter drivers and in turn liberate them close to home . there is also the exception to this ,i know a site member who had a crate of strays to come up ,they were given to "a certain transporter driver" at liberation site ,who done nothing more than liberate them then and there

Guest stb- Posted May 13, 2012 Report Posted May 13, 2012 (edited) after reading the 2nd day returns post , a few have mentioned birds turning up from a week or 2 previous races. i know a lot of birds are being brought back up country by un-seen folk ,who are going out of there way to help ,PMs off others who are willing to pick up from NEHU members etc,who themselves are going out of there way to collect SHU rung strays and pass them onto Transporter drivers and in turn liberate them close to home . there is also the exception to this ,i know a site member who had a crate of strays to come up ,they were given to "a certain transporter driver" at liberation site ,who done nothing more than liberate them then and there without being funny andy its against the law for them to take any birds they do not have on there list as vaccinated , if they were stopped and checked and found to have birds on the transporter that are not on there list the fine is quite severe , i have already been refused by a transporter crew to return a pigeon and when they exsplained the circumstances i could see there point . They are obliged bye law to carry a liste of all of the members pigeons listed any not on the list is ileagal and carrys a large penalty its a bit like a lad gives you a box way cocaine in it to deliver and you get stopped and caught you take the rapp no the guy who gave you the boxif they say no now i understand where there comming from Edited May 13, 2012 by stb-
andy Burgess Posted May 13, 2012 Author Report Posted May 13, 2012 without being funny andy its against the law for them to take any birds they do not have on there list as vaccinated , if they were stopped and checked and found to have birds on the transporter that are not on there list the fine is quite severe , i have already been refused by a transporter crew to return a pigeon and when they exsplained the circumstances i could see there point . DJH Posted May 13, 2012 Report Posted May 13, 2012 I had a bird turn up about 3.00pm yesterday. I didn't recognize it at first as it would not come in, only flying between the house roof and the loft. I thought it was a stray as it was rung on the wrong leg from what I normally ring my birds however it was acting as if it knew it was home, and it did have a Tipes ETS ring on that our club is 1 of only a couple in Scotland that have this system. I eventually got the bird in just as it was getting dark and on checking the number I realized that I lost the pigeon at Witton Castle, 2011, at the young bird racing. This pigeon was immaculate when I handled it and has come through a very good moult for a bird that has been lost for so long. I can only assume that someone has had this pigeon in over the winter and may actually have got it back into the area or onto a transporter and had it liberated yesterday. It's a long shot however if anyone knows if SU 11 NW 2211 was one of the birds that was brought back North then it would be good to know. Or even if they know where its been for the last 9 months?? Cheers Davy
Guest stb- Posted May 13, 2012 Report Posted May 13, 2012 so those that do it out of common sense and a willingness to help are breaking the law ?? well i suppose many do break the law daily , running a red light and speeding but hey . surely if the driver has been given birds lost at a race and ring numbers are listed ,then it would only need to contact the club or fed for relevant documentation if needed or stopped ?? or is that too simple a solution Rob ??no the law says that the only birds carried on the transporter have to be on there liste , not some other feds liste , also you dont get a 10k fine for running a red light either , if the guys say no which they have done before and exsplined the situation i can accept there decision . Its a bit like you getting stopped with no driving liscence and saying its ok i know someone in wales who has a license that one wont cover you bye law
ALF Posted May 13, 2012 Report Posted May 13, 2012 My mate was telling me a story about 2 nest mates yesterday he lost 1 of them 3 weeks ago and was then waiting on his birds coming from the race last weekend when both nest mates arrived together after her being missing for a fortnight What were the chances of him meeting his nest mate on the way home from the race? Strange things sometimes are pigeons
ovy1255 Posted May 13, 2012 Report Posted May 13, 2012 our transporter does not have a list of birds being carried -was told that defra had relaxed this rule. we sign to say how many baskets how many birds.
eastcoaster Posted May 13, 2012 Report Posted May 13, 2012 no the law says that the only birds carried on the transporter have to be on there liste , not some other feds liste , also you dont get a 10k fine for running a red light either , if the guys say no which they have done before and exsplined the situation i can accept there decision . Its a bit like you getting stopped with no driving liscence and saying its ok i know someone in wales who has a license that one wont cover you bye law I think you will find only birds for liberation are requested to be on the vac forms ,not stray or personal birds .
Guest stb- Posted May 13, 2012 Report Posted May 13, 2012 I think you will find only birds for liberation are requested to be on the vac forms ,not stray or personal birds .i think you will find that only vaccinated birds that are on the list will be allowed to travel , there should be no birds in the same group that are not listed , i already looked into this when i was told about the rules , it might have been relaxed they dont need the liste on now but someone must have a list of all birds on transporter through race entry forms etc from what i was told at the time if theres a bird thats not on the list certifying vaccination your done . I am only saying this as some are saying the convoyers should be sacked or got rid off , but rules are rules and if they dont want to break them thats there decision and all should just accept it
