lvlasked Posted March 18, 2012 Report Posted March 18, 2012 i thought i would do a right up on how i become to race pigeons just for a bit of fun and it is somthink for people to read. well it all started when i was a young lad, i use to live in pubs all around the place due to my perants being landlords fora bit firm, anyways when i was about 13 i was ask my perants for pigeons for ages they kep saying no but my grandadsaid to me when you come home from school there be a pigeon here, i just laughted and said ok grandad, anyways of to school i went, the bell went at 3 oclock and off i raced home to see if there was reali a pigeon there.but no sight of a pigeon or my grandad so i went to the town and there my grandad was walking back with this pigeon.ratty looking thing it was, but i was over the moon and he told me you carnt keep it but i promised id get you one and i did. well from that day for a year i beg my perants for a loft but they kep saying no no no, in the end i gave up but my granperantswere living in a house we owned at the time and to my suprise there was a loft built in the back garden for me.and 6 pairs of racing pigeons, ofcourse i was jumping all over the place and so happy, i never got to race any justhad them as pets but then me perants desided to leave the pub trade and move to the house and made me get rid of the pigeons. so from the age of 14 to 23 i had no pigeons but i thought about them every day then i met my girlfriend jade andhad a lovly son and moved into a council house and guess what first thing that got done my loft then i got given a couple pigeons from a lad that kep them at pets and brought some late breds from steve stoker, and some strays that came in and 2 van reets from adam freeman. i found the club wellingborough south road flying club were i just helped as much as i could thought out theold bird season first one at the club every friday last one to leave, they were all helpful and is a nice little clubthey are genuine people and wouldnt talk crap to you or anyone else its all " please and thank you". well it finaly came 2 young bird racing first race i sent them 75 miles and didnt see one on the day i was gutteredi thought thats it its over before it started but the next morning they were all back but 2 so i watch them carfullythis time around checked there droppings every day and made sure they were up for an hour atleast it came to my 2nd race at the same race pointso i put the birds in the basketing on friday night thinking i no what bird be home first. a little grizzal hen i bred from the pigeonsi got from the young lad who kep them at pets. so sat morning came and i was up at 6am in the back yard waiting for the call to say they whereup. 7 oclock came and so did the phone call and so i stood there and wudnt move for atall for nothing an hour went by and i seen some birds and this littlegrizzal hen bombing towards home i was calling and jumping around like a nut case she was on the house roof and just wudnt come down she finly desidewe was gunno come in 3 mins behind the winner dave gent i was guttered but i learnt somthink that day and it was to not jump around like a idiot .that was my 2nd and only race in 2011 as my birds fell apart in the moult but i was happy its now 2012 and im wanting to improve. sorry for the spelling and miss types not to good at it thanks for taking the time to read it yours in sport chris roscoe
